Registered Nurse-Emergency RoomWork Location: Keller Army Community Hospital, West Point, NYEagle Health is seeking a highly qualified professional to join our team in support of a government customer. Work Hours: Sunday to Saturday - 12-hour shifts run 0645-1845 and 1845-0645. Additional hours may be added or reduced as required by patient demandCore Duties:Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionalsFacilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality, and cost effectivenessEnsure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all DHA and MTF established policies, procedures, and guidelinesPerform physical exam and health historiesProvide health promotions, counseling, and educationAdminister medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized nursing-based interventionsDirect and supervise care provided by other healthcare professionalsAccountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnelComplete all administrative daily assignments/duties as outlined by department leadershipRecognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situationsCommunicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organizationMake referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriateConduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomesDocumentation processing and attending to patient care comply with The Joint Commission (TJC) guidelinesReview, understand, and comply with established medical record procedures, regulations, and principles to carry out a variety of medical record functions such as compiling data, analysis, coding, and quality assuranceComply with DHA and local hospital policies for maintaining a file system and updating records, which requires keeping weekly lists of all records and retiring records annuallyComply with DHA and MTF documentation requirements and policies regarding the release of information to outside agencies; prepare correspondence and summaries to a variety of requestors, such as the Veterans Administration Hospitals, Social Security Administration, and Insurance Companies. Employee must abide by the Privacy Act to determine what types of patient information can be releasedComply with DHA and MTF policy for return of records to the appropriate locationElectronic Health Record System- Mandatory use of medical database for keeping records, ordering of ancillary procedures, ordering of medications, writing doctor's orders, schedule follow-up visits and performing other required patient functionsParticipate in quality nursing measures such as chart reviews, peer feedback, peer reviews, and suggestions to the Unit Practice Counsel representativeComply with the standards of the Joint Commission, applicable provisions of law, and the rules and regulations of any and all governmental authorities pertaining to licensure and regulation of healthcare personnel and medical treatment facilities, the regulations and standards of medical practice of the MTF and the bylaws of the MTF's medical staff. Adhere to and comply with all DHA and local instructions and notices that may be in effect during the term of the contractSpecific Duties:Provide urgent/acute/critical care to ill or injured patients of all ages with complex medical and surgical pathologiesAssume the responsibilities as Charge Nurse if no other Government Service or Military registered nurses are present, or if assigned those duties by the shift supervisor or other authorized individualAdminister blood/blood products and critical care medications (monitor, mix, administer, titrate) with the knowledge of actions and usual dosage of commonly used drugsRecognize and respond to life threatening arrhythmias to include arterial blood gas draw and interpretation, hemodynamic pressure interpretation, perform synchronized/emergency cardioversion, apply noninvasive external pacemaker, perform emergency defibrillation; administer thrombolytic agents, provide naso-gastric and/or gastro-intestinal suctionPerform post-operative and sedation recovery and discharge within established criteriaAssist with and/or perform invasive procedures depending on scope of practice such as arterial punctures; blood draw from invasive monitoring lines; provide conscious (moderate) sedation, endotracheal intubation; administer prescribed medications to include respiratory, multiple medication drips and intravenous push drugsCare for patients on ventilators, manage a wide range of procedures of an advanced nature and difficulty where there is high risk for infection, bodily functions, and mechanical assisted by life support equipmentManages patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring: operate hemodynamic equipment safely and effectively, obtain hemodynamic variables, uses cardiac monitoring equipment; interprets and responds appropriately to dataReact with alertness and skill in any emergency situation and initiate life saving measures in the absence of a physicianPossess knowledge of the pharmacology of most commonly used emergency drugs, anticipated results, usual dosages, and their location on crash cartServe as a member of resuscitation team or emergency code teams and rapid responseObserve, manage patient flow through the Emergency Room; triage patients, referring to appropriate level of careEffectively document care provided on electronic chartingCrosstrain and float to alternate units during staffing shortage or needsParticipate in performance improvement projects, chart, and peer reviewsCape Fox Corporation, its subsidiaries and affiliates provide equal employment opportunities to all persons and prohibit employment decisions on the basis of race, religion, color, creed, national origin, sex, age, disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, or sexual orientation.
