As the outdoor activity partner for this smart young adult on the autism spectrum, you will provide support for engaging in outdoor adventures including hiking, backpacking and rock climbing.
To support the young adult's growth, you will provide safe transportation, assist with scheduling and household tasks to build independence and enjoy shared activities. Over time, you will build a foundation of trust and mutual respect.
The best match for this position will have a positive and flexible attitude and plenty of energy and enthusiasm for active pursuits. You will share interests with the employer, enjoy intellectual conversation and be up for outdoor activities in all kinds of weather. You will also assist with light household tasks such as cleaning up from meals and snacks, grocery shopping and laundry. No personal or medical care tasks are necessary for this position.
We offer:
- Competitive pay and bonuses.
- Total of 20-30 hours/week.
- Regular daytime schedule Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Alternating Saturdays off is a possibility.
- Use of the employer’s vehicle and gas for trips together during work time.
Basic requirements include:
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- A current driver's license and a good driving record.
- Reliable transportation to and from the work site in East Asheville.
- Willingness and ability to engage in outdoor activities.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Empathic, engaged conversationalist.
- Interest in a wide variety of topics.
- Experience with neurodiversity.
Due to dogs in the employer’s home and the employer’s preference, this is not a bring-your-dog-to-work position. Also, because the need is immediate, this job is most appropriate for those who are already residing in Western North Carolina rather than folks interested in relocating to the area.
