LOCALS SEAFOOD IS HIRING ASHEVILLE-BASED FISHMONGERS!
-Are you looking for a job that has Health Insurance, Life Insurance, and Retirement Options?
-Do you love being physically active?
-Do you have experience processing and selling fish, preparing food, or would you enjoy learning how?
If you answered yes to any of the above, we think you’ll enjoy working on our team as a Fishmonger!
Becoming a Fishmonger with us is an opportunity for someone who is passionate about bringing the freshest seafood to the Asheville area. Our mission is simple, to sell North Carolina Seafood to North Carolinians.
Email your resume and why you think you'd be a good fit at Locals Seafood and we'll be in contact with you soon!
Our Mission:
Did you know that most North Carolina seafood is shipped up the east coast to northern markets? And that nearly 90% of all seafood eaten in the United States is imported seafood, which has far less regulation?
By creating a market for local seafood inside state lines, we can help instill stability and prosperity to our state’s fisherfolk, oyster farmers, shrimpers, fish houses, and processors. Providing access to North Carolina seafood for North Carolina consumers allows residents to directly benefit from their taxpayer-managed fisheries. This increases demand for North Carolina products across the seafood market, incentivizing coastal professionals to sell more products within their home state.
How you’d help:
Your key responsibilities as a Fishmonger would include driving to pick up fish and seafood from our Raleigh processing facility. Then you’d bring all of that fresh seafood to sell at our Farmer’s Market location. While there, you’ll be answering customer questions about the local fish and seafood that we offer.
If this would be your first time working with fish, we’re happy to help you get your feet wet. We’re rapidly expanding and are looking for people who want to learn and grow with us! We’ll teach you everything you need to know and everything you’d like to learn about seafood.
Your schedule would look something like this:
Wednesday: 8a – 6p – Driving to Raleigh to pick up seafood
Thursday: 8a – 5p – Delivering seafood to wholesale accounts and market support
Friday: 10a – 4p Farmer’s Market Team
Saturday: 9a – 5p Farmer’s Market Team
Sunday: 9a – 5p – Farmer’s Market Team
Note: Clock out times are dependent on the workload for the day, and the times listed here are usually the latest times when the staff will leave.
When you work with us you get to be physically active, you develop a wealth of knowledge about seafood from our state, and you get to work alongside folks who love collaborating as a team to develop new and innovative ways to market and sell our products. Sure, it gets messy, and there are some low-tide smells, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!
