Purpose: The Farm Resilience (FR) Manager is responsible for leading the implementation of ASAP’s Appalachian Grown Farmer Resilience Project, working collaboratively with the LFC Director, Local Food Research Center, and program staff to support farmers in recovering from disaster and market challenges. The FR Manager will contribute to local food system learning and development, bringing together special project initiatives, targeted outreach, peer learning, and responsive programs to support long term farm viability. The Farm Resilience Manager is responsible for managing project specific activities and in initiatives, operational processes and documentation, as well as cross program support and collaboration. ASAP standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.
This position will be active for 12-18 months from date of hire, with continued options for employment based on funding. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. ASAP offers a hybrid work schedule of three days in ASAP’s Asheville office and two days remote. Primary Activities (include but are not limited to)
Project management and implementation:
● Implement farmer programs and services around recovery, resilience, and business planning, including outreach, training, technical assistance, and resource development.
● Implement project activities in conjunction with the Local Food Campaign team and across programs, including workshops, training, and community engagement.
● Work with Local Food Research Center to evaluate project success and learning, provide data and reports to the organization and partners.
● Facilitate partner meetings and collaboration
● Work with the team to plan and implement communications with public, media, and partners.
● Manage project-specific budgets and projects.
● Manage project-specific grant reporting.
● Keep abreast of current research, trends, and issues relating to programmatic work.
● Ensuring project operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies.
● Provide seasonal program support as needed, ie. Local Food Guide updates, AG material sales, events, etc.
● May manage program staff, interns, and volunteers.
● Provide input on program development and grants.
Database Management:
● Manage maintenance and updated of Salesforce records and database
● Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations
● Perform other administrative duties as assigned
Organization Mission and Strategy:
● Support responsive programs that direct demand for local products, build capacity, and make connections across the local food system.
● Foster partnerships with key civic and business entities and communities to promote program initiatives and ASAP (community/regional/state/national).
● Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.
● Support outreach and engagement across audiences including farmers, buyers, educators, consumers, and community partners.
● Keep senior management/Board of Directors informed with detailed and accurate reports or presentations
● Collaborate with leadership and Local Food Research Center to identify key metrics to evaluate and inform impactful programming and overall organizational planning and development.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:
● Strong organizational and project management skills that reflect an ability to manage many projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
● Experience managing and/or working in databases
● Experience supervising staff, volunteers, and interns
● Exceptional relationship-building, trust-building, and interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal). Candidates who are bilingual (English/Spanish or Spanish/English) will be given preference.
● Understanding of local market outlets and food systems.
● Comfort with public speaking about complex topics.
● Experience in supporting the collection and reporting of primary and secondary qualitative and quantitative data.
● Proficiency in appropriate software, technology, and database tools (Google Suite, Salesforce, CRM, Survey Monkey, etc.).
● Accuracy in dealing with processes and recordkeeping.
● Discretion and professionalism in dealing with sensitive information.
● Comfort working independently and collaboratively with a variety of teams in an open office environment.
● Understanding and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the local food system.
● Commitment to effective customer service and capacity to build and foster professional relationships.
Required
● At least 4 years of project and budget management experience.
● At least 2 years experience farming and/or working with farmers.

● Local travel with reimbursement for mileage.
● Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance.
● Some evening or weekend work may be required.
Compensation
The starting salary for this full time position is $50,500-54,500. Employees are immediately eligible for fringe benefits including 10 paid holidays, 12 paid sick days, 12 paid vacation days (paid vacation increases with term), employee workplace wellness initiatives, an Employee Assistance Program for the entire household, and employer match of 3% to SIMPLE IRA.
