Office manager / shop helper

At Linear Clockworks (linearclockworks.com), we make remarkable clocks like these.

This unique concept has proven to sell well in several galleries, at art fairs, and through our website. Sales have been about $250,000/year, and are liable to increase significantly this year.

We are looking for a permanent full-time employee who wants to grow with us, expand their skills and take on increasing responsibility in a unique work environment. We want someone who will commit to the company and the concept, and who can manage different aspects of a small business.

We offer:

Training and support on our process

Opportunity for creative engagement and growth

$22/hour to start; raises based on performance

Profit sharing after a year

We need someone steady, reliable, able to lift 40 pounds. Someone who will show up every day, get things done without supervision, and handle various problems that may arise.

You'll be working in a woodshop with one or two other people. We'd be happy if you can learn to do some of the woodworking too, using a chop saw, a table saw, and our glue-up jigs; finishing physical clocks: adding our laser-cut letters, and oil-finishing the clock faces

But as office manager, mostly we will need you to:

Photograph finished clocks and put them on our website and Facebook page. Computer skills are essential - we're macintosh-centric and iphone-friendly.

Buy things (lumber, electronics, lasercutting) from our various sources. Your SUV or mini wagon will be pressed into service. We pay mileage of course.

Add customers and place orders. We use Shopify.

Assemble and program clock mechanisms. A bit of fine motor skills required

Assemble our cleartime clocks - no woodworking necessary.

Pack and ship clocks. We make our own boxes.

Help customers place special orders. Talk via phone, email, or in person; help them select lumber and make decisions.

Keep our gallery presentable.

Research and apply to art fairs; help pack and load for them; attend and help run the booth sometimes.

Occasionally visit local display sites and galleries to improve our displays.

Deal with the problem of the day. It's a small, growing business and sometimes unpredictable.

There's an apartment over the shop which may be available as well, if you need a landing zone in Asheville.

Please email me something about yourself, and we'll talk.
