Performs intermediate technical work investigating suspected fraud by recipients receiving assistance under social service income maintenance programs, represents agency in judicial and administrative hearings, gathers data, maintains records and files, prepares reports, and does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Income Maintenance Administrator.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public social service organizations
Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the processing and/or review of applications for income maintenance programs
Thorough knowledge of manuals, rules, and procedures used in determining eligibility
Thorough knowledge of investigative procedures and techniques
Thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the judicial system
Considerable knowledge of agencys organizational rules, policies, and procedures
General knowledge of the methods and techniques used to investigate suspected cases of fraud
General knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant
Good critical thinking skills and the ability to apply them when needed
Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills
Ability to recognize, collect, and evaluate evidence to support actions
Ability to learn the forms and program procedures
Ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, clients/applicants, community agencies, law enforcement agencies, judiciary personnel, and the general public
Ability to obtain or present pertinent data, negotiate agreement and/or cooperation, and to explain and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures
Ability to analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusionsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Associate degree from an appropriately accredited institution in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or related field and two (2) years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Income Maintenance Investigator OR
High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Income Maintenance Investigator OR
High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of investigative experience in credit, legal, or law enforcement work and one and one half (1.5) years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Income Maintenance Investigator OR
An equivalent combination of training and experienceLICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Drivers License.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
