Manages structural projects, including the complete design of building systems in hot-rolled steel, cold-formed steel, concrete, masonry, and timber
Takes projects from inception to closeout, including preparing project-specific construction specifications and construction administration. This includes calculations, creating detailed designs, models and drawings for structures used in preliminary schematics, design development, construction, and record documents
Inspects construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards
Prepares opinions on costs and written reports
Assists in proposal generation and fee estimates
Works collaboratively with other departments
Establishes and maintains client relationships
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a ABET accredited university with a focus on Structural Engineering
6+ years of experience preferably in Structural Engineering and on a variety of project sizes and types
PE Licensure in NC or able to obtain one within six (6) months of hire
Experience with Building Structural Engineering AutoCAD and REVIT software
Experience with structural analysis software such as RAM Steel, RAM Elements, RISA Platforms and ENERCALC
Strong knowledge of mechanics of materials, steel, concrete, masonry, and timber design desired
Knowledge of building codes, including application of ASCE-7.
Ability to create, read, and interpret structural calculations and construction drawings
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to adhere to all deadlines, budgets, and contractual obligations of each project
Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred
Ability to collaborate
Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time
Ability to drive, visit job sites and walk on rough and uneven terrain, climb and balance (on a ladder), and enter a crawlspace as needed
