The Welder Helper position is a support role that provides assistance to certified welders by preparing materials, setting up and maintaining equipment, cleaning the work area, and holding components in place during the welding process. Key responsibilities include transporting materials, using hand and power tools, performing quality checks, and ensuring a safe work environment. This position offers hands-on experience and a path for advancement into skilled welding roles.
Key Responsibilities
Material and Equipment Preparation:
Gather, move, and prepare materials.
Clean metal surfaces using wire brushes, grinders, and chemical solutions to remove rust, slag, and grease.
Set up and adjust welding equipment, including connecting hoses and cables.
Welding Support:
Hold, move, and clamp workpieces into position for the welder.
Assist with the layout and assembly of metal components and structures.
Work Area Maintenance:
Keep the welding area clean, organized, and safe.
Operate and maintain cleaning equipment like grinders.
Safety and Quality:
Identify and report safety hazards and comply with all safety procedures and regulations.
Perform quality checks on finished welds.
General Support:
Operate various hand and power tools and equipment.
Interpret blueprints and drawings to understand job requirements.
Communicate effectively with welders and team members.
Qualifications and Skills
Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy labor, handle heavy equipment.
Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure accurate work and quality control.
Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions from certified welders.
Manual Dexterity: Physical strength and dexterity to manipulate materials and tools.
Willingness to Learn: A proactive and dedicated attitude to assist the welder and learn new skills.
Basic Communication: Proficient English reading and writing skills are often required.
FORKLIFT EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. ANY WELDING EXPERIENCE IS A MAJOR PLUS.
