Description of WorkThis position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits (https://oshr.nc.gov/state-employee-resources/benefits) , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. This position will serve as an Engineering Technician III within the Duplin County Maintenance Yard. This Engineering Technician III level position will support higher level Technicians or Engineers in preparing plans, documents, estimates and contracts. This position will perform on-site inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments and subdivisions. Employee will conduct pre-construction meetings with requesting parties. This position will perform field inspections for maintenance contracts, organize and maintain as built and road files. This position will meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the general public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person. This position will assist the County Maintenance Engineer as needed during emergencies and inclement weather. This position will also assist the County Engineer with other tasks as assigned. Duties involve operating a state-owned vehicle in the daily performance of duties. Experience in conducting independent, complex inspections for roadway and resurfacing projects to ensure compliance with contract documents, plans, with limited supervision.
Experience in performing inspections, sampling and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
Experience in maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports including computer/iPad data entry
Skill in the use of basic office equipment and computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, ArcView, SAP, MMS, SPPP) and Basic mathematics.
