Principal IT Engineering Consultant

The Principal IT Engineer Consultant will be responsible for assessing, designing, implementing, and supporting IT systems to meet business objectives.This individual will have effective communication and customer service skills; a strategic business mindset; a strong technical experience in enterprise IT engineering support including experience administering cloud PaaS and IaaS platforms including Microsoft O365, Azure, and AWS; and have a passion for learning innovative solutions. The Principal will be able to proactively prevent potential technology problems and identify opportunities to transform business operations through the effective use of technology. The Principal will be engaged with multiple active clients to deliver business while working in parallel with business development activities. The Principal role can be remote with travel as needed.Performance Objectives

Proactively engage with multiple clients, ensuring exceptional service delivery, and collaborate closely with stakeholders and senior leadership to drive successful technology solutions.

Conduct architectural assessments to produce designs and cost estimates for both simple and complex organizations. The assessments should be consumable by both executives and technical staff.

Provide strategic IT consulting services for mergers and acquisitions, including integration planning and execution.

Lead Microsoft 365 migrations, ensuring seamless transitions with minimal disruption to client operations.

Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

Assess client environments and provide actionable recommendations to improve operations, reduce costs, enhance security, and create business value.

Develop and deliver solutions and strategies based on client needs.

Drive business development efforts by cultivating relationships with existing clients and identifying opportunities with new clients. Develop solutions, author statements of work, and create cost estimates for new opportunities.

Lead and mentor a team of senior and junior engineering consultants, as the organization expands, to enhance their performance and professional growth.

Provide timely and expert ad-hoc advisory services to address client needs.

Handle escalated IT Tickets across a variety of clients leveraging ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) based tools, practices and processes.

Serve as a point of escalation on incidents requiring engineering knowledge.

Seve as project owner, creating workplans and solutions and completing assigned tasks as defined within statements of work and / or Managed Partner agreements. Ensure projects are completed within scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards. Develop documentation, oversee project plans, and develop client ready deliverables.

ExperienceThe following are critical experience elements for the Principal, IT Engineering:

Qualifications (required)

BS/BA degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Minimum 10 years overall IT and/or system implementation experience.

Experience managing core technology components (e.g., networking, server infrastructure, storage systems, and backup systems), and cloud computing.

Familiarity with digital transformation projects and modern IT paradigms (e.g., microservices, DevOps).

Knowledgeable and experienced with managing the core component infrastructure of M365 and Azure (e.g., Users, Groups, Exchange, Azure Active Directory, licensing, etc.)

Knowledgeable and experienced with managing cloud PaaS (Platform as a Service) and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), specifically with Azure and/or AWS.

Experience deploying and configuring M365 components including Teams, Exchange, Intune, Defender, and Sentinel. 

Experience deploying and configuring Enterprise Applications (e.g., Zoom and Adobe) and their integrations (including SSO).

Experience deploying and configuring Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems (e.g., Azure Entra ID) including conditional access rules.

Proven experience designing, building and supporting enterprise systems solutions for small and medium businesses. 

Experience with formal change management practices and procedures.

Preferred qualifications

Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards, such as NIST, HIPAA, GDPR, GxP, etc.

Strong understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman).

Certifications including Azure Fundamentals, M365, Microsoft Security, AWS Cloud Practitioner or CCNA.

Experience in consulting – managing multiple client engagements in parallel.

Subject matter expertise in Identity Management, Device Management, Cloud computing or similar technology areas. 

Experience in regulatory environments such as GxP (Good Practice) in life sciences

Scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, or similar DevOps focused technologies.
