Description: The International Student and Scholar Coordinator serves as an advisor to international students in the F-1 and J-1 visa programs in support of the overall operation and management of the International Student & Scholar Services Office for nearly 500 international students. As a member of the International Affairs staff, the position has shared responsibility for providing intercultural education for the campus, coordinating initiatives regarding staff and faculty outreach, and supporting orientation and peer mentor programs. The International Student and Scholar Coordinator reports directly to the Director of International Affairs.Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The Office of International Affairs is a centralized office within the Division of Academic Affairs that can serve as a comprehensive organization to coordinate college-based internationalization strategies, support faculty research agendas, and provide services to students (both domestic and international). The Office of International Affairs supports academic exchange programs for students and faculty, coordinates and provides students opportunities to study abroad, manages agreements with overseas institutions, works with faculty to develop new international programs including faculty-led study abroad, and in collaboration with the Liberal Studies Department helps administer the nationally recognized Global Studies Certificate Program. In addition the office provides global awareness activities through various cultural and educational activities throughout the year to create a campus-wide global perspective. Furthermore, the Office of International Affairs supports the enrollment of international students (F-1) and exchange visitors (J-1) and is responsible for maintaining the university’s formal approval and privilege to recruit, matriculate, graduate and employ foreign nationals. Services also include guidance with international admissions to non-immigrant visa requirements, and orientation sessions for both international students and scholars. The office also supports the development of programs and activities designed to promote international student success in academics and research, provide support in English language skills as well as the social and cultural adjustment to the North Carolina A&T campus.Internal job number: 000457Requirements:Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree with an international focus or related field.
Professional work-related experience in international recruitment and/or admission advising at a higher education setting
Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills and ability to thrive in a highly collaborative team.
Familiarity with international education administrative processes and/or the immigration advising experience preferred
Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills, talent for effectively balancing and prioritizing multiple responsibilities, and aptitude for taking initiative.
Exceptional interpersonal, intercultural, organizational, and communication skills – both written and verbal;
Experience working with international student mobility and recruitment trends
Familiarity with academic and cultural issues confronting international students from diverse backgrounds in U.S. university and community settings;
Knowledge of U.S. institutions’ admission policies, higher education policies and practices;
