Exploration Geological Technician

Reporting to the Drilling Services Superintendent, the geological technician will be responsible for helping to manage drill sites and drill sampling for Exploration group needs. You’ll work with the Drilling Contractor and Geology team to ensure safe and efficient drilling operations and support functions are accomplished.Schedule is 7 shifts on and 7 off 12-hour shifts supporting drilling operations and sampling needs. The principal objective of this role is to ensure all drill sites and drill samples are held to the highest standards, process drill samples in a timely and profession manner, and to operate variety of equipment in accordance with OGC and Government procedures and policies to support the Exploration GroupHourly wage is based on experience and knowledge of the trade.  Increase in compensation is based on self-motivation and performance through yearly evaluations of competencies against set standards and industry standards.Demonstrate company values of Care, Respect, Integrity, Performance, and TeamworkPractice and lead good housekeeping and work safelyConform to Safety and Environmental policiesFollow and lead procedures and SOP’sConduct and lead daily equipment and workplace inspections, reporting defects in a timely mannerBe a visible safety leaderDisplay a continuous improvement mindset by driving efficiencyConduct geotechnical logging for rock properties and weigh samples for densityPhotograph core, download and label photosComplete QAQC of core sample measurements and orientation linesPrepare core samples by cutting and bagging core, ensuring sample ID’s match master sheetsBring any discrepancies to geologist’s attention for clarificationInsert blanks and standards into sample batches for QAQCPrepare samples for offsite shipment to assay labOperate mobile equipment including forklifts, pickup trucks, skid steer and dozerBe able to competently reverse an 18-foot trailerOperate core cutting electric saw, hand tools, hammer, shovels, broom, scrapers, etc.Retrieve drill samples from the field and deliver to core shedLift up to 50-pound samples using proper lifting techniques.Ability to communicate with geologists and contractorsAssist with down-hole surveys and drill rig alignmentPlace silt fencing in the field adjacent to drill sitesRehabilitate drill sumps using dozers, bobcat, and hand tools Deliver cut core for final storage using trailer hitched to pick-up truckOrganize and inventory pulpsProvide daily site and shift reportsOperate Ford 250 and Dodge 5500 pickup truckOperate support equipment for department needsDrive continuous improvement initiativesComplete core sampling (Core cutting, shipping, pulp organizations, quality control checks, etc)Perform other duties as needed for the Exploration GroupCurrent equipment includes but not limited to F150’s, F250’s, Dodge 5500 gas, Dodge 5500 diesel, Propane forklift, Case diesel forklift, Bobcat skid steer, CAT D5K dozer, Freightliner/Ford/Sterling commercial trucks (Dump and water trucks), and equipment trailers.Disclaimer:The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of working being performed by people assigned to this classification.  They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skill required of personnel so classified.
