DescriptionAs a Senior Energy Markets Consultant with ICF’s Energy practice, you will have the opportunity to advance grid modernization, resilience, and integration of distributed energy resources for electric utility across North America. Your projects will be cross-cutting, involving technology, strategy, planning, grid operations, policy, and customer solutions. You will have an opportunity to apply your utility distribution system experience and knowledge and interact with experts and clients while building content knowledge and consulting skills.As a Senior Energy Markets Consultant, you will:
Work as part of a team supporting clients in navigating challenges related to electric grid modernization, integration and orchestration of distributed energy resources (DER), advanced grid technologies, resilience, and decarbonization.
Help provide strategic and technical support for utility clients tasked with planning and operating the electric grid of the future amidst changing policy environments and evolving market conditions pertaining to DER, such as solar, energy storage, electric vehicles, energy efficiency, demand response.
Prepare and develop analysis, research, reports, presentations, and other deliverables.
Coordinate within and across ICF teams in complex engagements.
Engage with clients in project meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Environmental Management, Businessor a related discipline.
3+ years of experience in energy consulting, electric distribution utilities, or similar.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Master’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Environmental Management, Business or a related discipline.
5+ years of experience in energy consulting, electric distribution utilities, or similar.
Experience relating to the electrical system design and planning/operation of distribution grid infrastructure.
Understanding of Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), grid orchestration, the grid edge DER ecosystem and their roles in grid management and market participation for DER.
Experience with power system planning, analysis, operational technologies, and/or financial analysis tools and methods.
Fundamental understanding of Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), DER Management Systems (DERMS) and electrical system modeling.
Fundamental understanding of communication and control protocols for electric distribution systems, and operational dispatch of grid edge devices.
Experience working on DER technologies and DER integration issues in the electric utility industry.
Fundamental understanding of utility interconnection processes and hosting capacity analysis.
