We are looking for a Job Coach / Aide for our delightful 28-year-old son who has Cerebral Palsy and I/DD (Intellectual Developmental Delays).
He is very fortunate to have a unique part-time job opportunity at an innovative biotech company located in the RTP of TW Alexander Drive. Our son needs the assistance of a job coach/aide to maintain his job due to his physical and intellectual challenges. The company where he and hid dad work has a very cutting edge research and development pipeline that includes growing lungs, hearts, and kidneys via regenerative medicine for transplants due to the lack of viable organs. It is an exciting and very interesting work environment and will provide a great learning opportunity for you as well. You will also enjoy FREE gourmet breakfasts, lunches, and a Starbucks coffee and smoothie bar at the on-site company café/restaurant where he works as an added benefit of your role.
He works in the Operational Technology department where his job responsibilities vary but include data entry and using various computer applications such as Smartsheets. The ideal candidate will have an outgoing and enthusiastic personality that has experience and passion for working with individuals with special abilities and unique challenges.
His current job coach was taking a Gap Year after graduating from NC State and will be going to nursing school full-time. She will be available to train you.
Our son is a delightful and conversational young man with mobility issues and intellectual challenges and requires assistance and supervision with many activities. He uses a walker as his primary means of mobility or a wheelchair for longer distances.
HOURS: Ideally 28 - 30 hours
DAYS: Tues, Wed, Thu ( 8 / 8:30 AM until 6:30PM) or a combination of 3 or 4 "consistent" days per week.
The schedule has some flexibility, and we are happy to discuss what may work best with your schedule.
ATTIRE: Business casual such as khakis / casual.
PAY:
The pay is $17 - 18 per hour depending upon experience with any associated expenses paid.
You will work through an agency such as Abound Healthcare, Maxim Healthcare, The ARC of the Triangle, or another organization that provides training for aides/caregivers/job coaches for individuals with special needs and/or disabilities.
Our Son's Interests:
He enjoys all types of music and loves to attend concerts and live music events: Country, Contemporary Christian, Classic Rock, Bluegrass, Symphony, etc. He also enjoys watching cooking on Food Network, Christian music services such as Lakewood Church with Joel Osteen, concerts, going out for lunch or dinner, etc. He plays an acoustic guitar (modified playing to a chord.)
Some of his past job coaches/aides/buddies have been students interested in Nursing, Teaching, Physical or Occupational Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, and Psychology as careers, and this has worked out extremely well. One was a retired special ed. teacher. However, you certainly do not have to be planning a career in any of these fields or be in college.
He really enjoys being around individuals with outgoing, energetic, and playful personalities.
We cover all associated expenses for both of you. A safe driving record is required. We want him to learn to be as independent as possible, and you will be a very important part of his life.
1 Year Commitment Requested, Please.
We try to minimize the amount of turnover that we have with his aides/caregivers. We certainly understand unanticipated things come up. However, for instance, if you know you'll be graduating nursing school and starting your full-time job or plan to move in 6 - 8 months, etc. it would not be ideal to pursue this position.
