RDU Auto Sales is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Service Manager/Technician to lead our vehicle reconditioning and repair operations. This critical role combines strategic management with hands-on technical expertise.
Position Overview
The Service Manager/LeadTechnician is responsible for managing all aspects of vehicle reconditioning operations. This position serves as the primary technical expert and operational manager for the service department, ensuring vehicles are reconditioned efficiently, profitably, and to quality standards that support sales objectives. You'll collaborate directly with our General Manager to ensure vehicles are reconditioned efficiently and profitably while maintaining exceptional quality standards. This position requires someone who can balance technical expertise with business acumen and vendor relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Assessment:
Prioritize incoming inventory based on reconditioning urgency and sales demand
Conduct comprehensive diagnostics on vehicles following initial intake evaluation
Provide General Manager with detailed cost estimates and strategic repair recommendations
Evaluate repair solutions considering service priority, operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, profitability, and technical feasibility
Assess whether repairs should be completed in-house or outsourced to specialized vendors
Procurement & Vendor Relations:
Source replacement parts from diverse suppliers to optimize availability, cost, and quality
Monitor incoming parts shipments and implement organized storage protocols
Coordinate parts distribution to internal technicians and external repair facilities
Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with sublet repair shops
Communicate repair specifications, parts delivery timelines, and priority status to vendors
Audit supplier & vendor invoicing to ensure accuracy and fair pricing
Maintain appropriate inventory levels of consumable supplies and fluids
Technical Expertise:
Perform advanced diagnostics utilizing systematic, professional methodologies
Execute comprehensive repairs across all vehicle systems including powertrain, chassis, electrical, HVAC, and body components
Electric vehicle experience/expertise highly desired
Complete full vehicle reconditioning to meet sales-ready standards
Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and take ownership of repair quality
Operate and test drive all vehicle types including manual transmission vehicles
Internal Communication:
Provide timely status updates on repair progress to internal stakeholders
Coordinate workflow to maximize departmental efficiency and vehicle turnover
Required Qualifications
Comprehensive automotive repair experience across all major vehicle systems
Demonstrated proficiency in complex vehicle diagnostics using professional troubleshooting approaches
Ability to assess structural integrity and identify frame/unibody damage
Strong business acumen with ability to balance quality objectives with cost management
Excellent vendor negotiation and relationship management capabilities
Detail-oriented mindset with unwavering commitment to craftsmanship
Valid driver's license with proficiency operating manual transmission vehicles
Must own professional hand tools, toolbox, and basic diagnostic equipment
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience servicing electric vehicles
Prior experience in dealership reconditioning or service management roles
Expertise in automotive parts procurement and inventory management
