Job Description

The Accounting Technicianis a financial leader at the location supporting the Controller and the Division/Regional Controller. This individual is directly responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger and associated sub ledgers, inventory records, inventory valuation, sales recognition/invoicing, payroll processing, and internal controls at this location and providing back up support as needed for similar functions at other locations. This position also provides support to the Controller and Division/Regional Controller in developing location forecasts and budgets primarily focusing on manufacturing costs. Reports utilizing this information are used by upper management for business planning and feedback to shop floor and production control personnel to measure efficiency.

Key Actions, Outputs, and Deliverables:

General Ledger - Ensure accuracy of financial records. This position is responsible for monthly account reconciliations ensuring balances agree with appropriate sub ledger detail. Discrepancies between general ledger and sub-ledgers are identified and resolved quickly with focus on causation identification and implementation of appropriate procedural or system changes to avoid recurrence.

Inventory Control and Valuation - This position is responsible for the auditing the accuracy of inventory sub-ledger quantities working with operations to identify any process or system weaknesses contributing to inaccuracies and creating standard costs for new items consistent with Division policies and procedures.

Sales Recognition/Invoicing - This position insures sales are recognized per contract terms after shipment, that invoices are prepared consistent with any special pricing or billing instructions, and that invoices are generated and sent to customers in a timely manner.

Payroll Processing – Ensure accurate and timely processing of hourly payroll.

Internal Control – Responsible for audits and analysis of location internal controls and available to assist EPI with internal audits of other locations as required.

Accurate general ledger Reconcile general ledger accounts to sub-ledgers, correct discrepancies, and complete analytical review comparing current balances with prior month, prior year, and budget to understand differences.

Maintain Accurate Standard Costs Analyze variances to standard cost compared to prior year actual and budget for materials (purchase price and usage), labor (efficiency and rate), and overhead (asset utilization and overhead spending). Summarize variance for management review and corrective action with emphasis on identifying operational weaknesses and potential corrective actions.

Ensure Reliability of Inventory Valuations Conduct independent inventory counts to confirm accuracy of inventory management processes/procedures and review adjustments in relation to overall inventory levels. Coordinate planning and execution of annual physical inventory (if required) and ensure that all inventory tags are returned and processed through SAP system. Report results of independent counts/physical inventory to Controller and Regional Controller with inventory management and process improvement recommendations as appropriate.

Sales Recognition and Invoicing Generate and mail customer invoices daily insuring any special billing instructions and contract terms of sale are followed. Reconcile shipments to invoices daily correcting discrepancies.

Payroll Processing Supervise processing of hourly payroll. Review pay related maintenance of payroll records by HR for accuracy. Manage remittance of special with-holdings such as uniformdues and ensure timely posting of payroll related journal vouchers.

Actively Participate in Management Teams and Meetings.As a resource within a center of excellence (Finance), this position is frequently called upon to advise and provide direction and information to management teams, up to and including being a permanent member on one or more teams. In this capacity the Plant Manager will advise on all financial matters within the team.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance minimum

Three - Five years of experience in a manufacturing standard cost environment with a similar background in general accounting, with exposure to forecasting, budgeting, inventory management, and pricing.

Solid PC skills are necessary with heavy use of spreadsheet and database tools.

Experience working with SAP a plus but not required.

Ability to work with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines.

Action and detail oriented with a willingness to learn
