This team works to ensure internal controls, processes, and procedures are adequate and effective, and executive management understands the risks, exposures, and trends that impact the business. The group also collaborates on projects and initiatives by providing support and awareness of risks and mitigating control solutions.The RoleThe Business Risk and Control Director is the responsible Risk Management Leader for risk and control programs and associated processes across the SDI organization. This Control Leader monitors, measures, evaluates, and reports on the impact of decisions and controls for SDI and is accountable for the supervision and management of all front line Issues Management activities across all risk types. The control leader ensures the business consistently implements the front line risk programs which include consistent implementation of regulatory and corporate risk programs. This leader also proactively provides aggregated views of risk across the business and counsels business leadership on risks, issues, remediation, and regulatory interactions. This leader also must foster a collaborative environment that ensures timely communication and strong cooperation between the front line organization and independent risk management.The CandidateThis role requires a collaborative leader capable of initiating action and managing change in a fast paced environment as well as strong relationship management, influencing, vision and execution skills. A key differentiator will be the ability to understand and operate successfully in a complex, heavily matrixed corporate environment. The role requires a sense of urgency, passion for results, and personal accountability for achievement while having ability to make timely and difficult decisions.The successful candidate will have ability to distill complex concepts, businesses, and processes across multiple teams into simplified and targeted solutions while communicating those concepts effectively and ensuring that all deliverables are met. They will use process and analysis skills to identify business problems and build compelling fact-based strategic recommendations. They will also have a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong credible relationships with key stakeholder groups including the SDI Control Team Executive, SDI Business Unit Group Head and Process Owners, Independent Risk Management, Internal Audit, Legal, Control Leaders in other lines of business, and Regulatory Agencies.Required Qualifications7+ years of management experience
10+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 10+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 7+ years must include direct experience in risk management
Other Desired QualificationsUnderstanding of Strategy, Digital and Innovation processes, capabilities, and services and where they manifest risk
Experience in Business Process Management, Issue Management, Risk Reporting, & Analytics, Governance, and developing and implementing enterprise programs
Proven ability to identify root causes of issues
Experience in designing, monitoring, and or remediation of controls
Experience in developing and or monitoring key risk indicators
Meaningful knowledge across enterprise risk management framework
Understanding of best-practice risk management techniques across financial services industry
Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and understanding of how they are implemented, managed and enforced
Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders and regulators, to include virtual, matrixed leadership experience and the ability to effectively manage and build relationships within the business and enterprise Risk function
Proven leadership and project management skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end-to-end risk management solutions and controls aligned with business/customer processes
Deep understanding of risk framework, corporate/business policies, and programs to translate into plans for the business, function and/or risk type
Demonstrated leadership ability that embodies the Wells Fargo Vision and Values and leadership competencies
Ethical integrity and demonstrated ability to assess and determine when to raise concerns and escalate
Proven ability to build and lead high performing risk management organization in a matrixed environment, ensure proper staffing and expertise exists and can coach and enable others in risk management and risk ownership
Strong analytical ability used to identify risks and confidently raise issues, escalate early and engage in constructive credible challenge and will do so independently when necessary
Proven ability to proactively manage and resolve conflict and effectively defend decisions with objective rationale
