Looking for that one in a million who wants to get in on the ground floor of a new Tree Farm & Nursery Business. The headquarters is a 500 plus acre farm in Burgaw, NC. The right person for this job will have farm & nursery experience. They will already have management experience. They will understand the big picture of managing employees & tasks through a annual cycle of planting, pruning, digging, potting, irrigation, fertilizing, weed control and the thousands of other farm maintenance tasks required to keep the farm running smoothly. The right person will also be responsible for leading the sales effort required to sell 1000's of live oaks and other tree and plant species to nurseries, landscapers and some retail customers. This job requires someone who understands the bottom line. They will need to be part of and manage a 1 & 5 year business plan, This will include Profits & Loss, Budgets, insurance, hiring, ordering supplies and managing the maintenance schedule for dozens of pieces of machinery. They will also be comfortable jumping on a skid steer, tractor, excavator, loader and dual axel trucks. We are not looking for someone who will point fingers. The right person will lead by example and outwork every employee on the farm. Must have a clean driving record, be drug free and has or is willing to get a CDL license. Must have a, or be willing to get, a Commercial Ground Applicator license for weed and pest control. This is a family business and the person applying needs to be presentable, friendly and have a 4 year agricultural degree or equivalent experience. The salary for this job depends on each candidates experience. This job is for someone who has always wanted to run a bottom line business but has not had the land or financial resources to start it on their own. The right person will be someone who is willing to take a chance, start at a lower salary until the farm starts making money, and share in the upside when they grow the business into a viable enterprise.
