Chemical Operator I

We are seeking a Chemical Operator to join our facility in Leland, North Carolina. As a chemical operator, you will handle materials and operate equipment to control chemical reactions in a chemical processing plant.

The operator monitors the production process to ensure the plant runs safely and efficiently. The role of the incumbent is to use knowledge and skills in operating chemical process equipment to fulfill the production needs of the organization and to perform those tasks as required by the operating instructions of each batch.

Responsibilities:

- Provide and maintain a safe work environment by participating in safety programs, committees, or teams, and by conducting safety audits.

- Follow all company policies and procedures pertaining to ISO 22716-Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) guidelines for cosmetics ingredients.

- Follow processing instructions, document all requested data and report all variances and unexpected results immediately to supervisor.

- Perform routine maintenance and general housekeeping. Maintain a high level of cleanliness and order in the work area, meeting quality department housekeeping standards.

- Perform tasks necessary to maintain SWP3 and SPCC compliance in handling storm water.

- Handle projects from start to finish per processing instructions and training.

- Load and unload raw materials, intermediates, and finished products into and out of various storage tanks and pieces of process equipment including reactors, pumps, and centrifuges.

- Operate a variety of process and utility support equipment properly.

- Monitor reactions properly and keep accurate and thorough records.

- Be familiar with the hazards and characteristics of all materials and reactions used in assigned projects.

- Notify supervisors anytime questions arise or when the process deviates from plans.

- Be knowledgeable about the hazards and characteristics of all materials used in assigned projects (found on SDS and SOP documents) and wear approved PPE.

- Must be able to work eight (8) to twelve (12) hour shifts on a rotating schedule which includes days and nights.

Basic Qualifications:

- High School diploma required

Preferred Qualifications:

- Associate’s degree in chemistry or engineering preferred

- 2+ years experience in chemical processing and manufacturing

- Familiarity in chemical processing and manufacturing

Physical Requirements:

- At times you might be exposed to various weather conditions and could be required to wear a respirator

- Ability to frequently move around for long periods of time.

- Ability to regularly grasp items and use both fine and gross hand manipulations

- Regularly lift/move items up to 50lbs.

The hourly pay for this non-exempt role is $21. Hourly rate offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate’s skills, depth of experience and specific work location.
