Education: High school diploma required. One year vocational training in the operation and repair of heating, ventilation and air condition equipment required.
Experience: Minimum of two years experience in commercial HVAC system installation and maintenance required. Healthcare experience preferred.
Additional skills required: Knowledgeable in the application and practice of life safety, mechanical and building codes. Knowledge and understanding in the operation and maintenance of various types of chillers, chilled water system and cooling towers. Knowledge and understanding in the operation and maintenance of various types of boilers and steam system. Knowledge and understanding in the operation and maintenance of various types of air handling units and air distribution systems. Knowledgeable in DDC controls and electronic building automation systems. Ability to evaluate HVAC systems for performance and efficiency improvement. Ability to analytically troubleshoot electronic, electrical and mechanical equipment issues using a variety of testing equipment. Thorough knowledge in understanding and utilizing technical service manuals, electrical schematics and blue prints. Valid Driver's License in state of employment. In the execution of his/her duties a Non-Licensed HVAC Technician may be subjected to or exposed to any or all of the following; electrical shock hazards, severe weather conditions, infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals and other general hazardous conditions/situations as would normally be incurred in this line of work. Manual dexterity required for working with equipment and tools. Medium to heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending and stretching. Ability to work in a kneeling position for extended periods. Ability to hear and understand verbal communication changes in machine/equipment noises. Ability to climb ladders and work at extreme heights and confined spaces. Ability to work in a stressful environment resulting from a large volume or traffic and noise. Ability to work extended shifts if necessary/required. Ability to assist in firefighting and evacuation.
Additional skills preferred: Knowledge in electrical and electronic systems. Thorough knowledge in the use of personal computers and PC programs.
