Utilizes analytical skills and experiences to investigate or escalate support issues. Resolves incidents and services requests. Assists in the creation and maintenance of training documentation. Focus areas include EPIC ADT/Cadence module and vendors supporting scheduling, registration, and hospital patient flow. Incorporates appropriate presentation techniques to support and/or lead training sessions. Researches, analyzes and makes recommendations for application workflow improvements. Creates and analyzes reports created using multiple reporting mechanisms.The Applications Support Analyst gathers, analyzes, designs, develops, modifies, tests, implements, evaluates, and maintains information technologies to support business needs. Promotes and participates in a team approach. Works with other departments and outside vendors. Comfortable managing change with excellent problem solving skills. Time management and prioritization of tasks on a daily basis. Proficient verbal and written communication required. Positive attitude and excellent customer service skills are expected. Ability to communicate diplomatically across integrated teams. Good interpersonal skills. Proficiency with software such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software required.Knowledge of multimedia tools, creation of training support documentation, software development, or web-based applications preferred. When applicable, basic knowledge and support of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) philosophies is helpful. When applicable, possess knowledge in state and federal laws, rules and regulations.QualificationsBachelor's Degree required.Area of focus in Information Technology, Healthcare, Business, or related field preferred.   • Summary The Specialty Care AMSA will be a part of an Oncology Team that consists of a Provider, RN, and LPN. This team will provide Oncology services to Fargo VA and on-site services to our CBOC\'s to reduce Community Care dollars. As needed, the AMSA will provide support to other Specialty Medicine ICC teams, impacting the administrative aspect of patient care through specialized and coordinated appointments, using advanced clinic access principles, collecting, updating pertinent information. Responsibilities The incumbent serves as an Advanced Medical support Assistant (AMSA) and provides clerical administrative support in the coordination, care, and treatment provided to patients throughout the Specialty Care Integrated Clinical Community (ICC), to include Pulmonary, Cardiology, Hospice, Palliative, Kidney, Oncology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Infectious Disease, Diabetic Ed, and other specialty care areas. The incumbent\'s work impacts the administrative aspect of patient care, including access, specialized scheduling/coordinating appointments using advanced clinic access principles, collecting, and updating demographic and insurance information, patient processing, and customer service. The incumbent plays an integral role in identity and developing ways to resolve problems with the administrative and clinical staff on access, customer service, patient flow, revenue, and data validation issues. Assignments consist of significant scope, administrative independence, and complexity that vary in range. The responsibilities often require a high degree of judgement in responding to both employee and patient concerns and providing solutions to problems as they affect day to day operations. The major duties of this position include but are not limited to: Making specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or care in the community resources. Recommending changes to existing clinic procedures based on current administrative guidelines and has expertise in utilizing numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics involved in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Coordinating with the patient care team to review clinic appointment availability and utilization to ensure that clinic schedules are closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinics and makes recommendations for change as necessary. Developing and maintaining effective communication with the patient, interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model teams, VA medical centers, and other agencies (e.g., assist with communications during the inpatient to outpatient discharge, communicate with non-VA medical facilities, manage a system for follow-up care such as consults, tests procedures etc.). Scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling patient appointments and/or consults; entering no-show information. Participating in team huddles and team meetings to manage, plan, problem solve, and follow up with patient care by sharing information and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. Setting priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs. Identifying incomplete encounters, communicates findings to providers, as needed. Assisting the team in reinforcing the plan of care and self-help solutions; enters appropriate information into the electronic record. Providing orientation/training on clinic procedures to new or relief staff, as necessary. GS-06 Advanced Medical Support Assistant: This GS-6 Advanced Medical Support Assistant position is above the full performance level for this job series and requires experience beyond the basic requirement for positions in this occupation. EXPERIENCE: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level that equips the candidate with the following: 1. Operate computerized programs and systems in order to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive medical and patient identifying information (PII) into or from electronic health records, scheduling systems, and/or reports. 2. Schedule medical appointments in a clinical setting. 3. Work independently in the accomplishment of a wide variety of duties performing patient support work. 4. Communicate effectively and professionally in person, electronically, and/or by telephone, with internal and external customers. 5. Customer service with the ability to identify customer concerns and refer to the appropriate staff, as necessary, to ensure a satisfactory resolution. Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g. medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met. 2. Ability to independently set priorities and organizes work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies and regulations. 3. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing, with internal and external customers. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns. 4. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process (including, but not limited to, scheduling across interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community models and patient health care portals) as it relates to access to care. 5. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow, and patient support care administrative functions to include, but not limited to appointment cycles, outside patient referrals, follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc. 6.
