Working Conditions: The work tends to be repetitive and physically demanding. Handlers may be required to lift and carry heavy objects, and occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch in awkward positions. Handlers may be exposed to residue from steel material and work in environments that may be in the vicinity of loud noise and dangerous machinery (hoists, conveyors, saws, etc.). Generally work 8-10 hour shifts, though longer shifts may be common.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Receives printed customer orders and pulls inventory or fabricate material to prepare for shipment
Bands and tags material with the appropriate identification information
Distributes out-going material to proper staging locations
Assists with unloading / loading of material for company and non-company carriers
Frequently operates a crane and / or forklift to handle heavy material
Counts, weighs, and records number of units of material moved
Performs other duties as instructed or assigned
Operate computer scanner to track material
