Assumes responsibility for coordinating all available resources to assure a high degree of safe, appropriate care and treatment for all patients on their unit. Works collaboratively to plan, implement and evaluate health care standards within the unit. Works collaboratively with the Director to facilitate problem resolution.QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed by State of Ohio as an R.N.
EDUCATION :
BSN required.
Magnet recognized certification required or must obtain within 1 year.
Certification in specialty area of expertise preferred.
Certified in ACLS - specialty units.
EXPERIENCE:
Five years of experience as a professional nurse within a hospital setting.
Experience as a nurse manager preferred.
Computer literacy.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Has knowledge of a management in psychiatric nursing, or a broad working knowledge of psychiatric nursing.
Ability to analyze and interpret complicated information.
Ability to determine a course of action based on general guidelines.
Ability to modify existing forms, procedures, or methods.
Ability to use highly sophisticated equipment requiring extensive training.
Problem Solving/Decision Making:
Makes decisions based on policy and/or consultation with CNS/Program Director.
Requires judgment in selection of alternative courses of action.
May adapt standard management principles to new or changed conditions.
Solutions generally based on past precedent with some risk-taking involved in developing new managerial approach.

Demonstrates the ability to utilize cost per unit of service in the annual departmental budget process by anticipating trends, future needs and reflecting these in budgetary requests.
Prepares requests for utilization of resources (i.e., capital/staff/outside resources) in a clear concise manner consistent with Mercy Health policies.
Establishes and achieves realistic recruitment and retention goals.
Manages department resources in a manner consistent with departmental budgets and departmental activity.
Addresses departmental account and unit cost variances from budget on a monthly and year-to-date basis, consistent with policies.
Improves cost per unit of service.
