Job Description
Job Title: Assistant Chef
Department: Chapter - University
Reports To: Kitchen & Dining Program Chairman
Job Status: Non-exempt, Part-Time
Experience Required:
The Assistant Chef should have experience in a range of food styles and cuisine in order to provide a variety of menu offerings
2 or more years experience preferred
Assistant Chef Schedule:
Hours: 7am – 3:30pm Monday through Thursday, 7am-3:30pm Saturday-Sunday (this represents 2 part-time positions)
Assistant Chef’s services may be required for special functions, such as Homecoming, Parent’s Day, Recruitment functions, etc. as requested by the Chef and Kitchen & Dining Program Chairman.
The responsibility and duties of the Assistant Chef shall include, but not be limited to the following:
Prepare and serve breakfast Monday – Thursday, and Saturday-Sunday
(All lunch duties are for Monday – Thursday, and Saturday -Sunday each week Miami University is in session)
Preparing and serving lunch (with and without assistance)
Stock salad bar and refresh as needed
Prepare lunches to-go (Appx. 5-10 per day.)
In Head Chef’s absence, or as requested, supervise Kitchen Steward, and other student volunteers in the kitchen
Work cooperatively and collaboratively with Chef on menu planning for regular and special occasion meals.
Keep kitchen, equipment and contents clean and safe, with the assistance and teamwork of all other kitchen staff and volunteers.
Prepare, handle and store all food in a safe and sanitary manner. Standards must reflect all department of Health regulations at all times.
Along with the Chef, prepare a task list of duties for Kitchen Steward or other kitchen volunteers to complete daily, weekly and monthly while Miami University is in session
Under the supervision of the Chef, delegate tasks and operate the kitchen as a team such that quality meals are served on time to the active members.
Make every effort to use all the food in the pantry, refrigerator and freezer by the end of each semester. Kitchen and pantry will be thoroughly cleaned at the end of each semester.
Assistant Chef understands and agrees that, as a condition of employment, Assistant Chef will undergo vaccination of Hepatitis A and B, with documented cost of said inoculations to be reimbursed by the Corporation. If employee can supply written proof from a doctor that they have been inoculated already and the time frame is still current for protection, further inoculation would not be necessary
Experience:
Culinary experience: 1 year (Preferred but not required)
Cooking: 1 year (Preferred but not required)
