Position Summary:
The Lawn Care & Landscape Assistant Technician plays a crucial supporting role in delivering high-quality lawn care and landscaping services to our residential and commercial clients. Working under the guidance of a senior technician or crew lead, this position is responsible for assisting with a variety of tasks, including mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, planting, mulching, pruning, and general property maintenance. Key Responsibilities:
Lawn Maintenance:
Operate walk-behind and riding mowers, trimmers, edgers, and blowers in a safe and efficient manner.
Assist with precise mowing, string trimming around obstacles, creating clean edges along sidewalks and driveways, and blowing debris from hard surfaces.
Learn and apply proper mowing techniques to promote turf health.
Landscape Installation & Maintenance:
Assist with the planting of trees, shrubs, flowers, and groundcovers.
Help with the application of mulch, topsoil, and other soil amendments.
Participate in pruning and trimming of shrubs and small trees.
Assist with the installation of landscape materials such as rocks, pavers, and decorative elements as directed.
Help with weeding and general garden bed maintenance.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Learn to safely operate and properly maintain a variety of landscape equipment and tools.
Assist with daily checks and minor maintenance (e.g., cleaning, fueling) of equipment.
Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly.
Property Clean-up:
Perform thorough clean-up of work areas, including debris removal, sweeping, and ensuring a neat and tidy appearance before leaving a property.
Assist with loading and unloading equipment and materials from vehicles.
Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Identify and report any potential hazards or unsafe conditions.
Teamwork & Communication:
Work collaboratively with team members to complete tasks efficiently and to a high standard.
Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding task progress, challenges, and material needs.
Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with clients and the public.
General Duties:
Assist with snow removal and de-icing operations during winter months (if applicable to company services).
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management.
Qualifications:
Experience:
No prior professional experience required; willingness to learn is paramount.
Previous experience with manual labor or outdoor work is a plus.
Skills:
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
Basic understanding of common lawn care or landscaping practices is a bonus.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Excellent work ethic and a positive attitude.
Ability to operate basic hand tools (rakes, shovels, pruners) safely.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and kneel for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
Manual dexterity and physical stamina are essential.
Other:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred (or willingness to obtain).
