The Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute cares for patients with a variety of heart, vascular and thoracic diseases and provides the highest level of patient care, innovative treatments and a welcoming environment to all.The J6-3 Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit provides care to post-open heart surgery patients and telemetry patients who have undergone innovative and cardiac procedures, such as valve replacement/repair, aneurysm repair, Maze, radiofrequency ablation, pulmonary vein isolation, pacemaker and defibrillator implant/removal and robotic assisted surgery. This unit is the closest unit to an ICU without being an ICU. This is an excellent opportunity for a nursing student as this is a PRN position that offers a flexible schedule and allows for a balance between school, work and life.A caregiver in this position works variable shiftsA caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide direct nursing care.

Implement and monitor patient care plans.

Monitor, record and communicate patients' conditions.

Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.

Assess and coordinate patients' discharge needs.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience.

Internal applicants with less than two years' experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period, could be considered with the Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval.

Will consider military RN experience.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
