Job Dimensions:The Lead Flex Supervisor located in Cleveland, OH is the first level of authority in the manufacturing plant providing leadership, coaching, technical support and clear direction to ensure people are working safely, meeting customer demand, solving problems, eliminating waste and meeting goals. The primary function of the Lead Flex Supervisor is to plan, oversee and coordinate day-to-day maintenance execution of facility, equipment and machinery while providing technical guidance to skilled trades professionals. The incumbent must be able to seek cooperation from others and must develop relationships to resolve problems while working under the direction of the Operations Manager.

Knowledge and experience in applying lean manufacturing principles.

Demonstrated ability to train, develop and motivate subordinates.

Well-developed communication, leadership and problem-solving skills

Major Activities & Key Challenges: Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Lead Flex Supervisor position is accountable for:

Coaching, supervising and training skilled craftspeople, apprentices, operator technicians, and supervisors in the repair and maintenance activities of their assigned shift and areas;

Key Function is to perform AND teach hourly craftspeople on how to execute front line trouble shooting activities on equipment in area of responsibility;

Follow all safety procedures LOTOTO / PPE / Confined Space / Burning Permits / Fall Protection;

Demonstrate and set the example for hourly employees – work with them on organization techniques, leadership behaviors, troubleshooting skills, mechanical and electrical skills;

Strong verbal and written communication skills that succinctly and clearly explain the business case for improvement actions to both UAW and leadership (verbal, written, voicemail and e-mail);

Assist in performing root cause analysis and “5-why” techniques with the goal to eliminate maintenance and production downtime;

Coordinate and manage the development of maintenance and production work procedures and standard practices to maximize quality work and eliminate waste;

Drive continuous improvement activities and production flow to eliminate all waste, especially as related to maintenance downtime, safety, work practices and employee involvement;

Provide any necessary input to Operations Manager regarding applicable labor issues within work area.

Diagnose and assist in solving difficult maintenance and production problems and recurring malfunctions

Support operating results through the management of subordinates with emphasis on quantity, quality, timeliness, safety, recovery, and delivery performance

Ensure work is allocated fairly and clearly assigned to crew members; formulate and assign tasks within guidelines established by department management

Decide and deploy appropriate crewing arrangements for planned and unplanned situations based on absences, schedule requirements, equipment availability, and vacations

Identify opportunities for problem-solving teams targeting waste elimination

Understand and utilize department measures which enable tracking of performance and progress towards achieving department goals

Manage the daily activities of assigned employees (including assigned Work Leaders);

Manage safety of subordinates utilizing the concepts of Human Performance

Lead individual safety discussions and job specific safety reviews

Supervise production and maintenance personnel engaged in setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment

Maintain all production and related quality assurance records

Responsible for meeting or exceeding production goals including production output, safety, on time delivery, and people initiatives within a traditional unit supervisor role

Initiate timely corrective action as appropriate (including attendance/tardiness)

Work with maintenance technicians to apply root cause analysis and rapid problem-solving techniques to minor exceptions to find and eliminate the fundamental problems

Develop individuals in the organization by providing challenging assignments for employee and by providing training, coaching, and mentoring for the all employees

Interim manager for department in the case of their absence.

The principal goal of this position is the training, coaching and motivating of hourly and salary personnel to provide reliable equipment consistent with business objectives of OEE, cost, quality and delivery requirements;

Strict adherence to our safety practices and processes is of top priority for this position and provide leadership to hourly and salary co-workers to achieve the same;

Cover for department manager in his/her absence.

Environment, Health & Safety Requirements:

Contacts within the company are primarily with other Technical Supervisors, Engineering, Maintenance Planning, various Production departments, Purchasing, Labor Relation and Human Resources, Environmental and Safety, and outside contractors.

The incumbent recognizes that accident prevention is equal in importance to production, quality, delivery, and cost control, and accepts the responsibility to work safely and promote safety consciousness among fellow employees.

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution

Minimum five years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Minimum of one years of management, supervisory or team lead experience.

This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Business from an accredited institution.

Experience using Oracle software.

Experience in a union environment.

Experience in works engineering.
