Research Student - Cancer Biology

The mission of the Department of Cancer Biology is to build bridges and teams to drive the best ideas in basic and translational cancer biology and developmental therapeutics to achieve breakthrough advances in the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer. The department faculty are international leaders in brain, colorectal and prostate cancers, leukemia and myeloma, as well as cancer stem cells, mechanisms of DNA damage and repair, and fundamental molecular and cellular processes that impact microbial infections and cancer. Identifying the molecular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of human cancers as well as in normal cellular regulatory processes is our goal, enabling us to achieve our long-term objective of rapidly translating research into strategies that improve patient outcomes.As a Research Student, you will work closely with research personnel and actively participate in a structured learning experience in a laboratory or clinical research setting. You will quickly gain hands-on experience in laboratory techniques, clinical settings, data collection and analysis and other related skills to explore careers in biomedical and clinical research.The ideal future caregiver is someone who:

Has been accepted or is enrolled in an accredited college or university as an undergraduate student.

Demonstrates a strong work ethic.

Is eager to learn and receive feedback.

Has decisive judgement and excellent critical thinking skills.

Under direct supervision, student may conduct research in the laboratories and/or clinical setting

Under direct supervision, student may perform data collection and analysis.

Other duties as assigned.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Must be accepted/enrolled in an accredited college or university as an undergraduate student.

This position is NOT applicable to anyone who has completed all requirements for an undergraduate degree/diploma.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Complexity of Work:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

None required.

Students with previous research laboratory experience are often preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Normal physical requirements include good near visual acuity and color acuity.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

  • Description What You Will Do The Institutional Review Board Supervisor is responsible for guiding IRB Administration Office staff performance, including training and daily oversight of routine activities to ensure core goals are met and work is consistent, efficient, and accurate.
