Safety Specialist (NASA Armstrong Test Facility)

DescriptionLeidos has an opportunity for a Safety Specialist to provide support at NASA's Sandusky Test Facility in Sandusky, Ohio . This role will perform a variety of tasks at the direction of Senior Safety Engineers related to site operations, facility safety, and construction activities. Duties may involve any aspect of personnel and facility safety including:

Facility, test system, or construction site inspections;

General safety training;

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) training, assessments, and audits;

Building Emergency Evacuation Program;

General fire protection review;

Construction Safety, Health and Safety Plan (HASP) Reviews;

Process Safety, Hazard Analysis, hazardous materials;

Facility and test system design reviews;

Confined Space, Fall Protection, Lock Out / Tag Out, basic electrical safety;

Audits.

This position works under general supervision of the lead Safety Engineer and is expected to apply basic fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in regards to safety as well as health and environmental issues. The successful candidate will exercise independent judgment within defined procedures and practices. U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance are required. Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a safety discipline and 2+ years of related experience. (Associate’s degree and 4+ years of experience, or a High School diploma and 7+ years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree)

Working knowledge of OSHA Regulations and safety management principles

Strong interpersonal communication skills, as this position interfaces with client and on-site contractor personnel.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

Background in technical or scientific education or experience is a plus.

Responsible for complete project life cycle of international systems, working independently and with emphasis on all customer-facing activities including implementing a strategic plan, including metrics and goals, in order to maximize the university\'s investment in Terra Dotta, Student Information System (SIS), and Student and Exchange Visitor System (SEVIS). The specialist is responsible for understanding the matriculation and immigration processes for international students and ensuring the accuracy of student records for all international students. The specialist will function independently to ensure systems meet the needs of the VISA office and enhance the customer service experience while facilitating compliance. Finally, the specialist will analyze data to identify trends and design and implement procedures and policies to meet growing needs. This position requires a familiarity with the university and its administrative and academic structure in addition to a working knowledge of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Department of State (DOS) F-1 and J-1 regulations and procedures.
