Key Responsibilities
Perform lead abatement tasks such as paint removal, encapsulation, enclosure, or replacement of contaminated building materials (windows, doors, trim, walls, porches, etc.).
Set up containment areas with protective barriers, plastic sheeting, and negative air machines to prevent lead dust spread.
Use EPA-approved safe work practices (wet methods, HEPA vacuuming, specialized cleaning).
Conduct specialized cleaning and HUD cycle cleaning after work is completed to ensure clearance standards are met.
Properly handle, bag, and label lead waste for transport and disposal in accordance with regulations.
Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, gloves, protective suits, and eye protection.
Follow all health and safety compliance protocols to protect workers, residents, and the surrounding environment.
Assist with documentation and reporting to verify abatement was conducted safely and meets clearance certification.
Work with supervisors, inspectors, and project managers to ensure quality standards and deadlines are met.
Skills & Qualifications
Completion of EPA- or state-approved Lead Abatement Worker training and certification.
Knowledge of RRP (Renovation, Repair, and Painting) rules and HUD lead-safe guidelines.
Ability to work in confined, dusty, or physically demanding environments.
Attention to detail with a strong focus on safety and compliance.
Experience using hand tools, HEPA vacuums, and abatement equipment.
Ability to follow instructions and collaborate with abatement supervisors and other team members.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, and work in varying conditions (heat, cold, enclosed spaces).
Ability to stand, bend, and move for extended periods.
