Overview
A Research Assistant is immediately available in Dr. Mingtao Zhao\'s laboratory in the Center for Cardiovascular Research at the Nationwide Children\'s Hospital/Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The Zhao lab is using patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and functional genomics (single-cell genomics) to study the molecular and genetic mechanisms of cardiovascular development and congenital heart disease. Sucessful candidates are expected to perform human iPSC reprogramming and cardiac/vascular differentiation, and help PI maintain the routine laboratory management including writing IRB protocols, place lab orders, and coordinate with other labs in the Center for Cardiovascular Research. Candidates with experience in stem cell culture, organoid development, and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing will be given priority. The Center for Cardiovascular Research currently has a NIH-funded T32 postdoctoral program to provide interdisciplinary, translational, and state-of-the-art research training in congenital and acquired heart disease, partnered with the Ohio State University College of Medicine. The Abigail Wexner Research Institute is one of the largest pediatric research centers and consistently ranked among the top 10 for NIH funding among free-standing children\'s hospitals in the United States. Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:
Master or Bachelor Degree in Cell/Molecular/Developmental Biology, Cardiovascular Physiology, Genomics or related field.
Desire to pursue a career in biomedical research, and knowledge of the research process.

Responsibilities
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs research experiments independently or semi-independently in accordance with protocols approved by the principal investigator. Such experiments may involve the use of laboratory animals or human subjects any may require evening and/or weekend duties.
2. Prepares and tests substrate, conducts assays, and prepares tissue cultures for use in research studies, as applicable. Molecular work including Western blot, RT-PCR and immunocytochemistry as needed. Such activities may be performed independently and may require evening and weekend hours.
3. Ensures accuracy of laboratory analytical procedures as required by specific research projects.
4. Collects and controls experimental data and patient information; and maintains accurate daily logs of experiments including methods, results, and conclusions.
5. Interprets the results of data analyses with input from the principal investigator.
6. Assists the principal investigator in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals.
7. Make recommendations about refinement and/or replacement of laboratory analytical procedures. Implements such refinements or new procedures with input from the principal investigator.
8. Orders supplies needed to conduct research; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; and assures that research equipment is in good working order.
9. Collaborates in the preparation of research budgets, and monitors expenditure of funds to assure that studies are conducted within budgetary constraints.
10. Instructs other laboratory workers and students in standard methods, practices, procedures, and equipment operations.
11. Maintains a clean working area and performs general laboratory maintenance. Adheres to proper safety techniques and procedures.
12. Performs miscellaneous related duties.
