DefinitionThe Division of Water, City of Columbus, is accepting applications for a Water Research Analyst I position. Hourly Salary: $28.61 - $42.90. The schedule will be Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm. To qualify, you must possess a bachelor’s degree in one of the chemical, biological, or physical sciences and a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. You must maintain an OEPA certification in at least one parameter. This position will be responsible for collecting and analyzing water samples, maintaining various databases, responding to customer inquiries regarding water quality, and conducting lab experiments using standard methods. Under general supervision, is responsible for collecting, examining, and analyzing samples of water for compliance with governmental regulations; performs related duties as required. Examples of Work(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)Performs chemical and biological analyses of samples using computational and analytical equipment such as chromatographs, spectrophotometers, nutrient autoanalyzers, and microscopes; Conducts laboratory experiments as outlined by supervisor using standard laboratory procedures; Tests samples collected from various points in the watershed, water treatment facilities, and the distribution system to discover possible sources of water contamination and comply with Federal and State water quality regulations; Collects, preserves and stores water samples for further analysis; Maintains bench worksheets and other required information of sample analysis; Prepares reports on findings, performing statistical analyses, and entering data on computer or by hand; Prepares calibration standard solutions and other laboratory reagents; Assists in maintaining and calibrating sampling equipment, analytical instrumentation, and other testing equipment; Recommends changes in laboratory procedures to accommodate new instruments and current regulatory requirements, such as EPA regulations;Identifies and documents microbiological populations in raw water, drinking water, and distribution system; Investigates, responds to, and documents customer complaints and water quality inquiries;May educate the general public about water quality and treatment. Minimum QualificationsPossession of a bachelor's degree in one (1) of the chemical, biological, or physical sciences. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Some positions allocated to this classification may require State of Ohio EPA certification or licensure due to the types of tests and analyses performed.
