ProMedica Physicians have locations serving northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan, all working together with a single mission: the health of our communities.Position SummaryCompound Pharmacy technician within the allergy & immunology practice prepares allergan immunotherapy extracts, readies and organizes doses for administration within the office, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Actively participates in the creation of an environment that fosters patient, family, physician and employee satisfaction. Other duties may extend into prior authorizations, sample inventory management and supporting refill requests. Accountabilities

Under the direction of physician, procures and compounds medication orders per physician request/prescription according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.

Precisely follow standard protocols for Allergan Immunotherapy Extract Preparation. Ensure correct formula preparation according to the prescription following quality assurance guidelines.

Maintains expertise in all guidelines provided by USP and the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.

Confirm the formulation in accordance to the script before starting compounding preparation.

Ensure compounds are prepared in accordance to formulation and that all relevant compounding guidelines and quality standards are maintained.

Fills physician orders. Replenish medication, and stock requisitions accurately.

Accurately labels prescribed dosages.

Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations; Repackages bulk medications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately per established procedures using appropriate techniques.

Assists in completing all medication inspections and identifies and removes all outdated and unusable medications.

Ensures proper refrigeration requirements are followed and logged.

Collaborates with other health care professionals in meeting departmental goals of shot clinic operations. Establishes and maintains mechanisms for communication and constructive problem solving with staff. Utilizes a team approach in decision-making and problem solving. Build trust and mutual respects.

Fully understand appropriate, efficient workflow of shot clinic for high-volume, impromptu/walk-in patient schedules.

Understand protocol for treating allergic reaction; respond and treat adverse reactions after shot administration, including the use of crash cart when necessary.

Performs training of new employees and in-services current employees in areas of specialization and/or expertise.

Maintains required certifications and successfully pass all required initial and annual certification tests.

Adheres to all United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Compounding and Government regulations and standards as related to allergan extracts.

Is routinely responsible for special assignments in the area of continuous quality improvement and other projects as assigned by a supervisor.

Provides proper notification for absence or tardiness.

Maintains professional, helpful and courteous relationships with nursing and other hospital employees, patients, and their families.

Performs all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and responsible manner.

Supports the department in providing a vision for its direction and embraces the change process to achieve the vision.

Fosters the culture of patient safety by using the error prevention techniques.

Communicates effectively orally and in writing within department as well as to all external customers.

Strives for continuous improvement by focusing on key department systems.

Job Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certified Pharmacy Technician with Ohio Board of Pharmacy (either PTCB or ExCPT (NHA) exam permitted). May be hired with a Technician Trainee License (expires 1 year from receipt) with restrictions in duties and expectation of Certified License being obtained.

Pharmacy Technician Training Program completion preferred.

Experience as a pharmacy technician in inpatient hospital, infusions or compounding pharmacy, with knowledge of sterile preparation.

Three years of experience preferred.

Position requires a confident, safety-oriented individual with strong mathematical skills.

Must be able to lift light materials. Non-material handling of continuous sitting and reaching; frequent standing; occasional squatting, kneeling, walking, and stairs.

Must be able to move about and between workstations.
