Plant Accountant

Description Robert Half is looking for a plant accountant for a growing Cincinnati based company. The plant accountant is responsible for the month-end close processes, including the preparation of journal entries, accounting reconciliations and supporting schedules / financial analysis. For immediate consideration please contact Jarrod Moon at (859)229-3603.Principle Responsibilities Assists in preparation of financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments. Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifying information. Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts. Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements; reconciling accounts. Prepares cash receipts by applying cash; reviews accounts receivable; requests payments on accounts; reconciling accounts. Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes. Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions.Requirements - Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges

Recent and relevant accounting experience

Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines

Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases

Outstanding analytical, quantitative and social skills

Proficient in ERP systems

Spreadsheet and database capabilities

BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

Month-end Financial experience

Experience with Month-end Reports

Month-end Journal Entries experience

General familiarity with Accounts Receivable (AR)

Month-end Close Activities experience

Quality experience with Microsoft Excel

Well-founded grasp of Monthly Accruals

Proven knowledge of Monthly Account Reconciliation

Month end closings experience desired

Practical knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP)

Mature organizational, written and verbal communication skills

Strong attention to detail

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including the preparation of estimates and accruals. Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities. Comply with financial policies and procedures including compliance with PCA\'s SOX 404 Key Controls. Engage in general accounting activities including the accurate and complete preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts and financial reports, such as balance sheets, profit-loss statements, and capital expenditure reports. Develop, maintain, and analyze forecasts, then prepare periodic reports that compare forecasts to actual costs. Follow up on customer accounts including customer credit issuances and collection activity. Ensure the accurate processing of the hourly payroll and related payroll/employee functions. Ensure all payroll transactions comply with company policies, as well as all state and federal requirements. Guide, develop, and train accounting associates including assisting the Plant Controller in supervising the day-to-day activities of the accounting associates. Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards. Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor\'s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience. Three (3) years of previous work experience in a business office/accounting department with exposure to general ledger, payroll, and/or accounts payable functions. Strong working knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Office preferably with exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Experience with financial systems for invoicing, credit/collections, expense reporting, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience in the manufacturing sector, containerboard, and corrugated packaging industry.
