The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator, the Medical Director, and/or the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
1.Must possess a nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
2.Must have, as a minimum, two years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long term care facility, or other related health care facility.
3.Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
1.Assists the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long term care facility.
2.Participates in developing, maintaining, and updating our written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
3.Ensures that reference material (i.e., PDR’s, federal and state regulations, etc.) maintained at the nurses’ station is current. Recommends to the Director written material that will assist the nursing service department in meeting the day-to-day needs of residents.
4.Ensures that the Nursing Services Procedure Manual is current at all times and reflects the day-to-day nursing care procedures used by this facility.
5.Develops and periodically updates nursing services objectives and statements of philosophy.
6.Periodically reviews the department’s policies, procedure manuals, etc, and makes recommendations for revisions of policies, procedures, etc., to the director of nursing services.
7.Assists in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
8.Ensures that all nursing services personnel are following their respective job descriptions.Participates in developing, maintaining, and periodically updating the written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel.
9.Participates in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing services department.
10.Participates in surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the administrator or director of nursing services.
11. Participates in developing, implementing, and periodically updating the resident’s written discharge plan.
12.Assists the Discharge Planning Coordinator in planning the nursing services portion of the resident’s discharge plan.
13.Serves on, participates in, and attends various facility committees as assigned.
14.Assists the Director in determining the staffing needs of the nursing services department.
15.Assiststhe Director in the recruitment and selection of nursing services personnel.
16.Ensures that a sufficient number of staff are available for each tour of duty to ensure that quality care is maintained.
17.Develops work assignments and schedules duty hours, and/or assist nursing supervisory staff in completing and performing such tasks.
