The J.D. McCarty Center is looking for a Physical Therapy Director to join our team. This person is responsible for the over-site of the Physical Therapy staff and students who provide evaluations and therapy to developmentally disabled patients, birth-21, with a variety of medical conditions. These services encompass our inpatient and outpatient clients. We determine the needs of our patients by creating and implementing evaluations of movement dysfunctions, adaptive equipment evaluations and use, joint mobility and flexibility, and development of activities/gross motor skills. Determines the need for therapy and makes appropriate recommendations to include intensive therapy. Administers and interprets varied assessment protocol and completes written summary of findings, based upon nature of evaluation. Salary based on experience. Starting salary: $95,000 based on experience

Develops, implements, directs and coordinates physical therapy services. Interacts with physicians, families, other professional /hospital personnel, and interdisciplinary team members to oversee the execution of physical therapy for developmentally disabled pediatric patients, 0-21 years of age.

Functions in a supervisory capacity to provide oversight to all areas of physical therapy programs. Assigns inpatient and outpatient cases, ensuring even distribution of workload among department staff.

Oversees the development and implementation of patient’s individualized treatment programs/goals and ensures they will meet all hospital guidelines and criteria.

Makes recommendations for future programs/services, participates in program development. Obtains and coordinates education and training as related to the new or expanded service.

Coordinates with the Director of Occupational Therapy the execution of Equipment Clinic. Participates in orthopedic clinic to ensure quality recommendations and follow through for pediatric patients with orthopedic/physical therapy concerns. Coordinates with orthotists to provide comprehensive orthopedic care to inpatients and outpatients.

Develops, revises and implements the Physical Therapy Quality Assessment and Improvement Program. Submits complete and thorough annual plan and monthly reports in accordance with established policies.

Completes administrative tasks such as timekeeping, PMP’s, etc. in accordance with hospital policies for the Physical Therapy department.

Works with hospital administration and school administrators to facilitate contracted services for Physical Therapy services in requested school districts. Oversees provision of physical therapy services to children in schools that are contracted with the center.

Oversees the safety and sanitation of the department. Assigns staff to clean supplies and equipment. Ensures the department area is safe and sanitized, and equipment and supplies are in good condition.

Oversees the supervision of students in the conduct of their clinical/practicum responsibilities and assignments.

Identifies needs for policies and procedures by observing relevant conditions/practices, gathering appropriate information, and consulting and collaborating with other affected entities. Reviews existing policies and procedures on an annual basis for accuracy, makes and communicates any required changes.

Coordinates and provides necessary orientation, education, and training to all staff. Maintains department orientation, in-service training, and workshop records.

Maintains department travel, equipment, and supply budget, remaining within established budget for fiscal year. Submits purchase requests that are timely and thorough.

Communicates pertinent information to physical therapy department that is received from administration or other assigned meetings, in a clear, accurate, and timely manner.

Performs comprehensive physical therapy evaluations and provides ongoing treatment to inpatients and outpatients, 0-21 years of age at least 2.5 – 3.0 billable hours per day.

Completes all required billing and documentation in accordance with established center policies. Ensures accountability throughout the physical therapy department.

Performs patient, family/care provider, and outside agency education and training. Represents the best interest of the patient/family/care provider and the Center by acting as a liaison between the Center and all parties involved.

Promotes public relations and marketing activities for the Physical Therapy services throughout the state. Collaborates with other disciplines for joint activities.

Works with hospital staff in the development and maintenance of a waiting list for physical therapy services. Works in conjunction with providers throughout Oklahoma to include families, physicians, nursing and therapeutic staff, schools and school personnel, community assistance programs, etc. in coordinating services for children in need of physical therapy.

The above job functions are not meant to be all-inclusive. As such, the Director of Physical Therapy will perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethics of professional physical therapy; of therapeutic techniques and their application to physical therapy; of anatomy and physiology; of standardized and special treatments related to physical therapy; of procedures for evaluating various skills and abilities; and of the supplies, materials and equipment used in conducting physical therapy. Ability is required to evaluate individual skills and abilities; to develop physical therapy treatment plans; to administer prescribed treatments or conduct planned activities; to establish effective working relationships with others; to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing; to exercise initiative and independent judgment; to provide in-service training at the local, regional and state levels in identified areas of expertise; to direct the work of others; to develop physical therapy programs and plans; to organize and coordinate physical therapy activities; and to supervise and evaluate the work of others.

Education and Experience:

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a current Oklahoma license as a Physical Therapist issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision plus five years of professional experience as a licensed Physical Therapist; or an advanced level master's degree or doctorate in pediatric rehabilitative services, pediatric occupational therapy, special education, or a closely related field may be substituted for two years only of the required experience.

J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age.We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acres campus includes a on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in-patient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs.
