Storage Administrator III

The Storage team is responsible for all storage infrastructure in Paycom’s datacenters hosting all internal business operations as well as Paycom’s internally developed application. The role of Storage Administrator is to maintain the storage environment by devising strategies for data storage, developing and installing storage systems and backups, identifying errors and inconsistencies, troubleshooting, and performing regular maintenance checks to ensure the efficiency and security of storage systems. Furthermore, as a Storage Administrator, you will collaborate with other IT teams in the architecture, configuration, and maintenance of all storage related system infrastructure projects, tools and processes, as well as participate in troubleshooting, remediation, and documentation.RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the team in the architecture planning and design of new storage array implementations and processes

Configure and tune systems for best performance, following vendor or industry best practice guidelines

Work support tickets, projects and tasks assigned to the Storage Infrastructure team

Monitor system performance and logs and provide reports for management’s awareness into the technical health of Paycom’s infrastructure

Actively monitor capacity and workloads, forecast and allocate resources

Develop team documentation for day to day duties and gained team knowledge

Keep systems properly configured, updated, healthy, hardened and scaled to meet the needs of the business

Work with various technology teams to pro-actively evaluate DR plans, backup requirements, and failover procedures

Communicate with vendors to ensure we are properly licensed and up to date on renewals

Be responsible for and act as subject matter expert on any assigned systems

Participates in on-call rotation responding to incidents and escalations as needed

QualificationsEducation/Certification:

Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

4+ years of professional IT experience supporting servers and/or storage systems

Experience working in medium/large datacenter environments

Experience with implementation and maintenance of SAN and NAS appliances, such as Pure, HPE Nimble, or Dell using iSCSI/FC/NVMe-oF

Ability to write technical design and build documentation for all aspects of Storage and Backup Infrastructure

Experience in system monitoring tools and techniques for supporting SAN, NAS and Backups operations, alerting and remediation

Skills/Abilities:

Basic knowledge across multiple infrastructure technologies – Storage, SAN Fabric, and Recovery services

Working knowledge of storage concepts such as RAID technology, tiering, replication, snapshots

Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware vCenter/ESXi

Linux or Windows server administration

Working knowledge of enterprise storage systems and protocols (SMB/CIFS/NFS/iSCSI)

Using a log aggregation tool, such as Splunk, for troubleshooting and reporting

Data retention and capacity planning

Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong inter-personal skills

Strong organization and analysis skills

Strong focus on quality and customer service

Must be able to prioritize work

Strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation/Certification:

Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Info Sys, Computer Science or related fields

VMware VCP/VCAP/VCDX

MTA/MCSE or current equivalent

SCSN-E/EMCSA or similar storage certification

Experience:

Experience with automation technologies including scripting: Python, BASH, Perl, PowerShell, etc.

Familiar with object storage/S3 protocol and its usage with modern applications

Data copy or replication tools such as robocopy/rsync/emcopy/etc

Experience with disaster recovery as it relates to storage systems and data recovery techniques, including disk replication, snapshots and disaster recovery best practices

Monitoring, Tuning, Troubleshooting hardware and performance metrics

Working knowledge of Windows or Linux OS

Skills/Abilities:

Kubernetes, Containers and Cloud Native Technologies (CNCF)

Working knowledge of security, networking, and firewall components

Experience with VDI/VMware Horizon

Knowledge of blade server hardware, such as UCS

Multi-node system architecture planning and design

System performance tuning
