System Administrator III Job Descriptions/Duties

  • Monitors system performance to ensure adequate resources (hardware, software and communications) are available to meet customer requirements.
  • Coordinates problem resolution with customers, teaming partners and vendors.
  • Evaluates new and existing system software and recommends changes to improve efficiency and/or functionality.
  • Tunes system software and performs workload analysis and load balancing to optimize system efficiency.
  • Performs authorized maintenance of a highly specialized nature on system software, compilers, assemblers, and utility systems.
  • Establishes and maintains system security.
  • Provides management with status of projects, problems or other outstanding project related issues.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with Operating System maintenance
  • Credentialed scanning, patching, remediating and updating software for Microsoft and Linux systems vulnerabilities
  • Experience working work Information System Security Officers (ISSO) on execution of policy
  • Remote management of Microsoft and Linux systems
  • Working with systems through VPN tunneled connection
  • Experience working with System Security (software)
  • Replacing obsolete software
  • System testing
  • Documentation of software maintenance actions
  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization
  • Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
  • Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
  • Lead desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions
  • Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance
  • Provide deployment and operations, storage for near-team, long term and archival requirements; shared access and security features; data integrity;
  • Provide support functions that include problem diagnosis and repair that meet applicable standards, system performance testing and verification
  • Provide an understanding of applicable security considerations regarding sensitive or classified data or systems
  • Provide technical support and coordination to ensure effective and efficient IT training
  • Develop requirements by identifying potential sources for required products and services; designing, developing and updating relevant training materials; scheduling and coordinating required training
  • Provide and maintain configuration management of firmware, software, and hardware
  • Develop and maintain firmware, software, and documentation
  • Provide and document system software, firmware, hardware maintenance and updates
  • Provide software management to include commercial standards, reuse, training, upgrades, compatibility, licensing, intellectual property rights and security
  • Utilizes personal computer and software packages to develop, review, edit and update various types of documentation and databases.
  • Apply and maintain quality assurance and control procedures in maintaining designated software, firmware, and hardware repositories
  • Create new software version control processes and procedures that increase efficiency and improve software quality
  • Participate in program technical reviews
  • Ensure system compliance with MMAC IT security requirements
  • Communicates and works in a highly professional manner with management, individual customers, local work groups, and extended work groups on highly visible task
  • Develops high quality documentation, assist in the completion of special projects
  • Works in a team environment, willingly and promptly provides assistance
  • Provide telephone etiquette that presents an appropriate, clear, positive image
  • Provide assurance of Operational Safety, Suitability, and Effectiveness
  • This position requires up to 25% travel.
  • The primary work location will be in an office environment; however, candidate will also be required to spend time working on systems which may be located in a shop or outdoor environment. The position also requires climbing onto and getting off the bed of large sized trucks (e.g. Ford F450) where the computer equipment are located.
  • The candidate must have experience and be able to troubleshoot hardware and software problems with very little oversight.

Qualifications
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience
