Engineer-Pipeline/Specialist (Tulsa, OK or Houston, TX) Job ID #: 29640 Location: OK-TULSA Functional Area: Engineering Position Type: Full Time Experience Required: 3 - 5 Years Relocation Provided: No Education Required: Bachelors Degree RC/Department: 0391 -INTEGRITY FIELD SVCES-W CENTRL :KMI Position Description Provide technical support in all areas of pipeline systems with the primary responsibilities of managing pipeline integrity projects (In-line Inspection tools and Remediation, Evaluation and Repair of anomalies) on Products, NGL, CO2, and Terminals pipelines. The individual will be a technical resource to the region in support of pipelines and may support process and operational activities. The individual must possess the ability to associate with a wide variety of people (personalities, skill and education levels, etc.) with tact, courtesy and professionalism. The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience and the position will be filled commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience.The individual must possess project management skills used in the development of project documents such as project scope, schedule, budget forecasting, cost tracking/analysis, and risk identification/mitigation and be capable of communicating this information using well-developed written and verbal skills. Secondary duties involve multiple small pipeline and facility projects and engineering studies. Daily activities include:
Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Accounting, Business Development, Products Movement, Land and Right of Way, Codes and Standards, and other internal departments to manage In-line inspection tool runs and remediation projects to maintain and improve the integrity of the company’s pipeline infrastructure.
Manage multiple maintenance projects with various deadlines and responsibility levels. The majority of the projects will include pipeline integrity inspection, remediation, testing and repair projects. Secondary projects will consist of pipeline construction, replacement & abandonment projects, and pipeline facility projects involving pumps, automation and controls, measurement, corrosion mitigation, and encroachments.
Generate project alternatives, cost estimates, secure project funding, track and forecast project expenses, submit project closure documentation.
Develop project scope documents, schedules, contractors’ bid documents, manage the bid process including job showing, select contractor, select and requisition materials, coordinate permitting, and manage contractor and other project activities.
Apply the company's design and operating philosophy within project locations to meet corporate goals for safety, regulatory compliance, efficiency, and profitability.
Review and manage projects in terms of economics, OSHA Safety, Kinder Morgan Engineering Standards, Construction Standards, and Operating and Maintenance Procedures.
Requirement to carry a company-provided cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
Provide engineering support to operations, as required.
Effectively prioritize workload between multiple projects.
Ability to take on new projects and shift priorities on short notice.
Position may be filled at various levels depending on experience and job skills of the successful candidate Position Requirements Education:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited University is preferred; however, a minimum of seven years commensurate experience with emphasis in pipeline design, project management, construction, maintenance, and repair may be acceptable in lieu of an engineering degree.
Experience / Specific Knowledge:
A minimum of 3 years prior Project Management experience is required.
Comprehensive knowledge of pipeline industry operations is required.
Must have a full complement of project management skills including project scoping and estimating, cost and schedule control, team building, resource planning and permitting.
Must be knowledgeable in interpreting and utilizing pipeline construction drawings and alignment sheets.
Working knowledge of pipeline fabrication and construction techniques.
Proven ability to work in a team environment.
Effective written and oral communication skills.

Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook.
Well-balanced interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communications skills are required.

Working Conditions:
The position frequently works under time constraints to meet deadlines and assure operational continuity.
Frequent contact is required with peers, management, operations, contracts, products movement, right-of-way, environmental affairs, and safety.
Individual will be required to carry a Kinder Morgan mobile phone and must be willing and able to support projects 24/7, in case of emergencies or under special circumstances.
Able and willing to work overtime, as needed.
Travel estimated to be from 10 to 30% to field sites and offices with occasional overnight stays. Some extended hours and after-hours work will be required.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (M-W in office, Th & F at home when travel is not required).
Certifications/Licenses/Registration:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to company and its insurer.
Physical Demands:
Extended periods of walking over varied terrain will be required to periodically oversee work activities in the field.
Position may also require prolonged periods of sitting in order to accomplish administrative duties (reading/reviewing documents, writing, typing and/or operating a computer, using the telephones, etc.) Occasional periods of bending, squatting, lifting, or climbing are required and would more often be associated with activities taking place outside the office.
Preferred Experience:
Understanding of pipeline in-line inspection tools used to assess the integrity of liquid pipelines and pipeline remediation and repair methods.
Knowledge of hydrostatic testing of pipelines.
Knowledge of 49 CFR 195, ASME B31.4 and B31.8, and ASME and NACE standards.
Experience conducting pipeline MOP studies.
Experience in investigation and root-cause determination of equipment failures.
Experience with high pressure liquid pipeline construction and remediation.
Experience using AutoCAD or similar drawing software to prepare engineering sketches.
Advanced computer skills.
