At Sierra James Construction, the Mitigation Technician plays a hands-on role in responding to water, fire, and mold damage situations. This position is responsible for executing mitigation services in residential and commercial properties, setting up and monitoring drying equipment, performing demolition when necessary, and maintaining detailed documentation in compliance with IICRC standards. A successful technician is dependable, safety-conscious, and able to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment while delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Response & Mitigation Services
-Respond to emergency mitigation calls involving water, fire, and mold damage.
-Perform water extraction, controlled demolition, structural drying, and cleaning.
-Set up, monitor, and document drying equipment (e.g., dehumidifiers, air movers, HEPA systems).
-Assist with fire/smoke damage cleanup and odor control processes.
Jobsite Operations & Safety
-Follow job site safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
-Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times.
-Conduct daily monitoring and moisture readings to track progress.
-Ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained, and returned after use.
Documentation & Reporting
-Accurately document daily progress using company systems (Chronicle, drying logs, moisture maps).
-Complete scope sheets, work orders, and photo documentation.
-Upload notes and documentation in real time or by end of shift per department standards.
Customer Service & Communication
-Interact professionally with homeowners, property managers, and adjusters on-site.
-Explain work being performed and answer basic customer questions.
-Communicate any jobsite issues, delays, or updates to the Project Manager or Coordinator.
Team Collaboration
-Work closely with fellow technicians, coordinators, and managers to ensure timely job completion.
-Assist other crews or departments as needed during high-volume events.
-Participate in weekly department meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications
-1+ year experience in mitigation, construction, or restoration preferred.
-IICRC Water Restoration Technician (WRT) certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
-Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work in confined spaces, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
-Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
-Ability to work on-call rotations, including nights and weekends as needed.
-Familiarity with mitigation equipment and hand tools.
-Basic knowledge of moisture mapping and drying principles.
Working Conditions
-Regularly exposed to environments affected by water, mold, fire, and smoke damage.
-Must be able to wear PPE and respirators when required.
-Work is performed on-site at various customer properties, occasionally in adverse conditions (wet, dirty, confined).
-Occasional after-hours and emergency response duties as required.
