PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position performs substantial and diverse pre-assigned and as-assigned job duties. This position provides customer service and armed security for the Redmond Municipal Airport as a uniformed security officer. Incumbent will report to the Airport Security Officer Supervisor and the Airport Security Manager and will conduct a large number of inspections and audits to maintain Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) compliance. Under general supervision, employee is expected to exercise broad discretion and independent judgment within established guidelines. Work includes reviewing with sufficient frequency, assigned security-related functions to ensure that all are effective and in compliance with the Airport Security Program and applicable Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security directives and DPSST minimum standards. Maintaining confidentiality is a requirement as is handling and processing confidential information.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs a wide and varied range of Airport security officer duties and responsibilities, including, but not limited to:
Airport terminal security: responding to access control alarms and TSA assistance requests as needed.
Assist in maintenance of curb traffic; issuing parking citations as needed.
Responding to incidents, deescalating sensitive and stressful situations.
Write incident reports as needed, in a timely manner, with high accuracy and professional language.
Adequately navigate web or application-based software to document and record inspections, incidents, access control functions, and a variety of other assigned tasks.
Maintain confidential materials and confidentiality in support of the Airport Security Program.
Develop and maintain effective professional working relationships with co-workers, peers, vendors, and stakeholders.
May be assigned on-call shifts (24/7), and should expect to work overtime, irregular hours, weekends and Holidays.
Aptitude and ability to retain, recall, and maintain significant amounts of information.
Works to maintain good relationships with many internal and external Airport Stakeholders, TSA Officers and Inspectors, vendors, contractors, tenants, law enforcement agencies, air carrier managers, concessionaire managers, etc.
Operates a motor vehicle regularly to attend to Airport safety needs, patrolling, meetings, trainings, etc. Other related duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Mandatory Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years of age. High School diploma, or GED equivalent, supplemented with an associate degree or vocational school training in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice administration, or related field; or two (2) years verifiable work experience in a law enforcement related position, or an equivalent combination of military, education and verifiable work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of this position.
Must perform listed essential job functions, work independently and cooperatively with peers, stakeholders, and customers, and have reliable attendance.
Successfully complete DPSST Armed Security Certification upon hire.
Must be able to pass TSA-mandated 10-year federal criminal history records checks and Security Threat Assessments and maintain satisfactory results.
Must be able to pass a drug screening.
Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job and remain fit for duty.
Must hold a valid Oregon Driver’s License with a clean driving record (last 3 years).
Must have flexible availability and expect to work nights, weekends and holidays as assigned.
Desirable Qualifications:
Hold a valid DPSST Armed Security Professional License or have the ability to obtain at offer of employment.
Customer service experience preferred.
Prior experience working with or for the TSA, law enforcement, military or as a qualified armed security officer.
Special Requirements:
Must have or obtain within thirty (30) days, a valid Oregon State driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any state; felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories within the past ten years are not allowed; U.S. citizen; must be able to read and write the English language; must be of good moral character and pass a thorough background investigation.
Must have or obtain at time of hire, valid DPSST Armed Officer Certification.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPTMENT:
PPE requirements as outlined in the position specific PPE Hazard Assessment Certification.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work is performed under the general direction of the Airport Security Officer Supervisor and the Airport Security Manager who hold the employee accountable for work performed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is not a supervisory position. Employee may assist in direction, guidance, or training in operational procedures to other employees.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and rarely lift and/or move more than one hundred (100) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, or all of the above with appropriate vision-correction eyewear.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Use of computer, data base, internet, Microsoft applications, copy machine, fax machine, and telephone system. Employee will also use Airport handheld radio and will drive City-owned vehicles on a regular and routine basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work both inside and outside of the Airport terminal. The employee must be able to work outside for brief periods in inclement weather conditions and near moving mechanical parts.
The noise level in the Airport terminal environment is quiet to moderate. During certain emergency response activities noise levels may be high.
Employees in this position are required to work in areas or around equipment which may meet or exceed the OSHA Hearing Conservation sound level. Employees in this position will participate in the City of Redmond Hearing Conservation Program.
This position may require work on weekends, evenings, or holidays and scheduled on-call (24/7) shifts.
