(This recruitment series is to fill one position. To be considered qualified, an applicant must meet the minimum requirements for one of the following two levels of the Fleet Technician position.)

Fleet Technician I

Grade 12 – Monthly Salary $4,755.00 - $6,048.00

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

An employee in this class is responsible for the timely scheduling and completion of maintenance and repair of all City vehicles and equipment. Work is under the general supervision of the Fleet Services Manager who primarily reviews work through results obtained.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

Mandatory Requirements:

High school graduation or GED equivalent plus a minimum of five (1) years of experience in engine and power train repair or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above-described duties.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics, gas and diesel engines, transmission, hydraulics, generators, and powertrain.

Ability to establish and maintain effective preventive maintenance programs, policies, and procedures. Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion. Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written communications. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, and the public.

Desirable Requirements:

First Aid and CPR and Forklift certification; certifications appropriate to complete the repair and maintenance of gas and diesel engines, and Fire and Medic apparatus.

Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities.

Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.

Ability to perform arc welding tasks on heavy and light steel.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) and EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certifications.

Special Requirements:

This position requires the use of City vehicles. Possession of or must obtain, a valid Oregon driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of hire.

Possession of or must obtain within one (1) year from date of hire, a valid Oregon CDL license of the required classification to operate Public Works Department vehicles and equipment.

Must have and maintain a safe driving record.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPTMENT:

PPE requirements as outlined in the position specific PPE Hazard Assessment Certification.

Fleet Technician II

Grade 14 – Monthly Salary $5,243.00 - $6,669.00

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

An employee in this class is responsible for the timely scheduling and completion of maintenance and repair of all City vehicles and equipment. Work is under the general supervision of the Fleet Services Manager who primarily reviews work through results obtained.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, and the public.

Special Requirements:

The position requires employees to operate a motor vehicle in the course of their position. Possession of, or must obtain within thirty (30) days from date of hire, a valid Oregon driver’s license.

Possession of or must obtain within six (6) months from date of hire, a valid Oregon CDL license of the required classification to operate Public Works Department vehicles and equipment.

Must have and maintain a safe driving record.
