Job Title: Small Engine Mechanic & Fleet Manager
Job Summary: The Small Engine Mechanic & Fleet Manager is responsible for maintaining and managing all landscaping equipment and vehicles. This role focuses on the repair and upkeep of small engines (e.g., weed eaters, blowers, chainsaws), medium-sized equipment (e.g., mowers), and basic maintenance of diesel trucks. The Fleet Manager ensures equipment is well-maintained, resolves mechanical issues promptly, manages the fleet schedule, and oversees shop organization. Additionally, the role ensures safety compliance, maintains accurate documentation, and trains crew members in equipment use and safety protocols.
Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair small engines (weed eaters, blowers, chainsaws, etc.).
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on medium-sized landscaping equipment such as mowers.
Oversee basic maintenance and servicing of diesel trucks.
Track and manage fleet usage to optimize vehicle and equipment operation.
Ensure regular maintenance checks and timely repairs for all fleet assets.
Manage the shop’s organization, ensuring a clean and well-maintained work environment.
Maintain inventory of spare parts and order new supplies as needed.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and conduct training on proper equipment use.
Manage fleet maintenance budgets, monitor expenses, and adjust as necessary.
Respond to emergency repair requests and perform urgent on-site repairs as needed.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all vehicles and equipment.
Communicate regularly with suppliers to manage orders and ensure timely deliveries.
Evaluate and improve processes to reduce equipment downtime and maintenance costs.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in small engine repair, equipment maintenance, and fleet management.
Familiarity with diesel truck maintenance.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
Experience managing fleet budgets and controlling maintenance costs.
Proficient in using fleet management software (training can be provided).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage shop operations and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
