We are a manufacturer of high quality Native American Tipis and are looking for a Contract Seamstress/Sewer who has their own business and would like to add us to their customer base, or we can hire an experienced Seamstress/Sewer to sew at our shop on an industrial long arm machine.
We have a variety of products that need to be sewn, from complex zipper doors to tipi liners and large tipi covers, which can weigh up to 90 lbs or more. Our fabrics range from 10oz to 15oz treated cotton and polyester/cotton mix that might be treated to be flame resistant. As a contractor, you will need an industrial sewing machine and a larger sewing table. All items come pre-cut and will need to be sewn and then folded to specifications. Standard pick up / drop off cycle is 2 weeks, during April-June it might be 1 week. If you live further away, we might be able to arrange a 3-week pick up/drop off schedule. Your sewing space has to be free of cat and dog air and any odor such as cigarette smoke or wood fire.
We pay contractors by piecework, which translates to $27-$30/hr once you are fully trained. Employee salary will be between $20-$25/hr depending on your proficiency and speed. For employees, we offer 401(K) contributions, unemployment and workers comp benefits, but no health care. Employment is offered part-time only, 2 or maybe 3 days/wk in coordination with our other part time seamstress.
We are a group of people who truly feel a respect for Mother Nature, the Native Culture and the choices that every individual makes about their own lives. We are a smoke-free shop and smoking is also not allowed outside. Also, our business is in a beautiful setting, but slightly remote without shops around, so running errants during lunch break would not be possible.
In your application, please tell us a little bit about yourself, why you are interested in this position and how you would fit into our team.
We are looking forward to hearing from you.
