Definition
Under general supervision, positions in the Maintenance classification perform general maintenance work in the operation, maintenance, construction, and repair of district facilities and operate motor vehicles & heavy equipment.
Essential Functions
Assists with a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction work on district facilities.
Performs trench excavation and backfill work.
Performs concrete and construction and concrete repairs.
Performs basic to advanced carpentry work.
Operates various pneumatic, hydraulic, and gasoline powered tools.
Performs brush clearing, weeding and general landscape maintenance.
Loads and unloads materials and equipment.
Apply herbicides/pesticides (hand & spray truck applications)
Relief Ditchrider and Dam Operator duties.
Design and fabricate specialized tools and equipment; fabricates a wide variety of metal structures; makes repairs and modifications to light, medium and heavy duty equipment.
Straightens, shapes, brazes, tempers, cuts and welds varied metals in repair tasks.
Repairs, reinforces, and modifies service lines, guard rails, buildings, vaults, meters, steel cylinder pipelines, and other metal structures.
Operates plasma cutter, metal spray equipment, sheet metal tools, cutting torch, saws, presses, hoists, grinders, buffers, electrical (arc), oxyacetylene (gas), MIG and TIG welders, portable welders, and related power tools and equipment.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, outside agencies, and the public.
Regular attendance and adherence to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.
May work irregular or extended overtime hours.
Other Duties
May learn semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work in an assigned work area.
Responds to emergency repair requests.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Reads and interprets diagrams and blueprints for fabrication assignments.
Maintains records of maintenance and inventory of all assigned equipment; orders and stocks welding related parts, supplies, and equipment; interprets drawings and specifications to determine materials and parts required for assigned projects.
Ensures proper safety precautions are observed.
Typical Physical Activities
Operates district vehicles and equipment in performing system construction, maintenance, and repair work.
Must be able to carry, push, pull, reach, and lift equipment and parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
Stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, and climbs during field maintenance and repair work.
Works in an environment with exposure to dust, dirt, and significant temperature changes between cold and heat.
Communicates orally with district staff in face-to-face, one-to-one settings.
Regularly uses a cell phone and radio for communication.
Uses a computer and copiers/scanner/printer.
Stands and walks for extended time periods.
Hearing and vision within normal ranges with or without correction.

Environmental Factors
Exposure to the sun: 25% to 100% work time spent outside a building and exposed to the sun.
Work above floor level: Use of ladders or other work surfaces from 1 to 12 feet above ground.
Temperature: Performs manual labor in sub-zero to 100-degree temperatures.
Humidity: Seldom work in areas with unusually high humidity.
Wetness: More than 10% of the work time getting part or all of the body and/or clothing wet.
Noise: Occasional work in the vicinity of constant/intermittent/loud noises/sounds.
Slippery surfaces: Frequently works on unusually wet and/or slippery surfaces.
Dust/Gases/Odor: Frequent work in or around areas with small to large amounts of dust present. Occasional work where gases, fumes, and odors are present.
Confined/Restricted Spaces: Infrequent entry into confined/restricted work environments.

Desirable Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent of High School graduation
Experience: previous experience and knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, fixtures, tools and equipment used in various building and maintenance trades; of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Skills are required to use various tools and equipment; to construct, maintain or repair various types of structures or equipment.
License/Certificate/Registration Requirement
Possession of a valid Oregon Driver License.
Oregon Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A with Hazmat endorsement.
Public Pesticide Applicator License: Aquatic and Right of way categories - obtained upon district request.
Dam Operator Certification - obtain upon district request.
Possession and proof of a good driving record as evidenced by freedom from multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for at least two (2) years duration. The driving record will not contribute to an increase in the district's automobile rates.
