Job Summary:Participates with the Health Care Team in delivering quality health care to patients in a manner which reflects Kaiser Permanente's mission, vision, and values while supporting the Labor Management Partnership (LMP) principles and practice. Participates in creating a high-performance culture based on a joint decision-making process. Provides support and assistance to the patient and Health Care team to promote population-based care, continuity of care, customer satisfaction, and self-care. Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills with a caring, courteous, flexible, supportive, respectful, open minded, appreciative attitude that is committed to a team environment. Assumes timely duties in assisting anesthesia providers by performing specific responsibilities as they relate to preparation and maintenance of equipment and supplies needed for the delivery of anesthesia care thus permitting more time for the anesthesia provider to be directly involved in patient care.Essential Responsibilities:

Assist with, set-up, and operate rapid infuser.

Handles patient and employee information with appropriate sensitivity and safeguarding to ensure confidentiality and right to privacy; uphold HIPPA standards.

Uses effective communication skills to minimize conflict and/or address difficult situations.

Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety and infection control into daily activities as outlined in organization policies/procedures.

Actively participates in safety and infection control program and activities as outlined as identified by specific program policies/procedures.

Complies with Kaisers Time Keeping Policy to accurately reflect productive time worked.

Reports to work as scheduled and on time (per unit norms and policies), time away from work is approved and taken in accordance with established system policies.

Demonstrates reliability and excellent attendance.

Monitors and takes corrective action to prevent recurring absences.

Returns promptly from breaks and schedules then to provide appropriate coverage.

Restricts personal business to non-patient care areas during break times.

Responds to all Code Blue when Anesthesia is involved.

Supplies and equipment daily routine:

Monitors and maintains anesthesia machines and related equipment, including calibration and cleaning according to manufacturer's recommendation and department/hospital policy.

Assemble and organize equipment as needed by the anesthesia staff provider.

Applies monitoring devices to patients and operates all common physiological monitors.

Maintain adequate workroom and anesthesia machine supply inventory through ordering and stocking from general stores, purchasing and pharmacy.

Keep the anesthesia workroom neat, clean, and orderly.

Decontaminate and clean supplies and equipment according to pre-established routines.

Performs routine preventive maintenance checks on all equipment, respirators, laryngoscopes, and blood pressure cuffs.

These duties are to be carried out between cases and at the beginning and end of the day.

Handles and disposes of contaminated equipment following established protocols.

Checks soda lime canisters daily and changes soda lime as necessary.

Tags and processes any equipment needing repairs.

Researches, establishes, and maintains inventory of special supplies purchased by the Anesthesia Department.

Performs and records Nitrous testing on all anesthesia machines.

Check and replace O2 tanks, Nitrous tanks and air tanks.

Perform V I-STAT or similar equipment and Glucometer calibrations as needed by site.

Perform tasks as requested by anesthesia on I-Stat, Glucometer.

Assists with regional blocks and lines as requested.

Performs any other specific tasks as assigned.

Wipes down anesthesia equipment, BP cuff, leads, etc. at turnover of each case.

Support and Educational Activities:

Attends and constructively participates in scheduled department in-service programs and staff meetings.

Demonstrates awareness of new information posted in the department communication notebook.

Participates in continuing education.

Promotes age specific and culturally sensitive care across the surgical continuum providing customer satisfaction.

Supports and participates in the orientation experience of new employees and students.

Special Assignments and projects:

Complete special projects and assignments as directed by the Chief Anesthetist and/or their designated representative in order to meet the operational needs of the department.

Assist anesthesia personnel in set-up of arterial or central lines.

Assist in set-up and operate cell saver devices.

Performs daily QI on all machines related to anesthesia and result reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Qualifications:

Knowledge of hospital and clinic settings with OR knowledge preferred.

Ability to comprehend and carry out hospital policies and procedures.

Ability to work in stressful situations and respond rapidly to requests.

Epic Health connect use and knowledge of patient order placement.

Basic Qualifications:Experience

Education

Graduate of an Accredited program in Anesthesia Technology or Technologist with an AS degree OR certified by the American Society of Technologists and Technicians (ASATT).

High school graduate.

License, Certification, Registration

American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians - Technician within 3 months of hire OR American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians - Technologist within 3 months of hire

Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 6 months of hire

Basic Life Support required at hire

Additional Requirements:

Able to cover call and/or work weekend shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum two (2) - three (3) years of anesthesia tech experience.

Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

Basic hygiene concepts.

Good body mechanics and safe lifting techniques.

Independent worker able to prioritize activities and work quickly, self-motivated.

Knowledge and understanding of sterile technique.

Good listening skills.
