The City of Halsey is accepting applications for a part-time Librarian.
We are a small team, passionate about serving our community. We work hard, have fun, and help each other out. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about public service and strengthening the community through library services. The Librarian must be able to give and accept feedback with courtesy, exercise good judgement, maintain confidentiality, and offer courtesy and kindness when working with the public, the Council, and staff. Compensation & Benefits:
This position is 25 to 30 hours per week. The hourly wage is $17.40-$20.79/hour. Benefits include employee health insurance, retirement contributions, paid vacation, paid sick time, and more. There may also be opportunities for extra hours for projects or cross training at City Hall.
Position Overview:
This is a solo librarian position working under the direction of the City Administrator/City Recorder. There is opportunity for creativity, direct personal contact with members of a small community, and for building connections with local schools and service groups. The librarian is responsible for:
-Running the library on a day-to-day basis
-Assisting the public with their information needs
-Circulation
-Providing customer service
-Developing and managing the collection
-Purchasing and tracking library expenses in accordance with annual budget
-Training and coordinating volunteers
-Attending and coordinating meetings with the Halsey Parks and Library Committee
-Event planning and Fundraising
-Creating library programs
-Using integrated library systems and other library technology
-Managing the library’s Facebook account and promoting the library on social media
-Cleaning and maintenance
-Creating and presenting monthly reports to Halsey’s City Council
-Completing annual reports for the State Library of Oregon
Required qualifications:
-A high school diploma or equivalent
-A valid driver’s license
-Access to reliable transportation
-Strong oral and written communication skills
-Basic computer skills and ability to learn to use new software
-A professional demeanor
-A commitment to DEI practices
-Willingness to reach out and make connections with the community
-Ability to pass a background check
Preferred qualifications:
-Previous library experience
-Experience collaborating with volunteers
-Experience in fundraising
-Experience in event planning
-Grant writing skills
