Care Setting:
The goal of an adult foster home is to provide care and services to residents while supporting their independence. Adult foster homes provide the opportunity for residents to reside in a safe and caring home-like environment where individual needs are met, and dignity of life is maintained. The health, safety and dignity of our residents is always our primary focus. Oregon Seniors and Disability Services licenses and inspects our home annually.
There are 5 residents in the adult foster care who we support in performing their activities of daily living (feeding, medication management, bathing, toileting). We maintain a safe and clean environment for them, as well as help them pursue activities they enjoy whether it's reading, shopping, cooking, watching the farm animals, outings into town, or going for a walk. There is a minimum of two caregivers present at all times. We help one another and work as a team to provide the best care possible to our residents 24 hours a day. Ability to work with others and a positive attitude are required.
Caregivers provide a variety of services that allow residents to remain in a safe, home-like environment. Duties of a caregiver include, but is not limited to:
- Transferring residents to/from a wheelchair/showerchair/bed
- Provide assistance with physical and occupational therapy as prescribed
- Provide assistance using basic medical devices
- Assisting with feeding which may include tube feeding
- Assisting with bathing
-Assisting with bed mobility and repositioning
- Assisting with grooming
- Assisting with toileting and incontinence care
- Scheduling doctors’ appointments
- Scheduling rides to/from doctors’ appointments
- Dispensing medication
- Properly documenting care and medication dispensed
- Ordering medication refills
- Reporting any significant changes in residents’ needs or condition
- Regularly communicating with other caregivers
- Planning and preparing meals
- Housekeeping tasks (dishes, laundry, cleaning)
- Contributing to a positive living environment to enhance a residents’ quality of life
- Providing companionship and conversation
- Performing other reasonable duties as assigned
For the first two weeks, new staff work with two other experienced caregivers to learn the personal preferences of residents, how to perform the tasks listed above, and complete an online training. New staff also receive training from and are delegated by a nurse to administer medication and use basic medical devices such as: feeding tubes, catheter flushes, oral suctioning, and blood glucose monitors.
