We run a small (3 acre) hobby farm/homestead on the outskirts of Corvallis near CV High school. We are about 10-15 minutes from campus/downtown.
We are looking for an individual or two as a paid apprentice. We will be starting at $18 an hour with an increase to $20 when you demonstrate yourself to be reliable. We will also share our harvest including vegetables, eggs, and fruit. We need approximately 1-5 hours of help each week, depending on the season. We are very flexible with hours and can work around other employment and school. Our hope is to find someone who is interested in permaculture principles and wants to learn about operations that are sustainable and integrate into our lives.
About us: We are creating a small scale operation that can support and sustain a few small families. Currently we have 7 sheep, about 13 rabbits, and around 20 chickens. We have a green house and two gardens. There are orchards and a variety of berries.
About you: The work consists in general landscaping and maintenance of the grounds, taking care of the animals, taking care of the gardens, pruning trees, and construction and maintenance of buildings. Tasks include things like: maintaining drip irrigation systems, clearing drainage ditches, cleaning out coops, weeding gardens, planting seeds, harvesting fruit and vegetables, building outbuildings, clearing brush.
Our commitment to you: We will train you on best practices as we understand them, and show you how the systems integrate and fuel each other. We will ensure that you know what it takes to take care of animals and have a successful garden. In short, we want you to learn the practical skills it would take to go out into the world and do it yourself.
Optionally, if desired, we can teach you to do extended activities like food preservation and storage, canning, dehydrating and fermenting. We can also teach you to process animals.
