Cunningham Sheep Company is a fifth-generation, family-run integrated farming, ranching, timber and hunting operation head quartered near Echo and Pendleton, Oregon.
Position Overview
We are seeking a junior Mechanic to join our year-round ranch and livestock operations. Based out of our Echo/Pendleton facility, duties will include troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of equipment to include ranch infrastructure such as outbuildings and water lines, as well as mechanical/electrical equipment and vehicles ranging from generators, trucks, pick-ups, tractors, trailers, livestock feeding equipment, heavy equipment such as graders and excavators, side by sides and ATV’s.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct routine and preventative maintenance and inspections on trucks, tractors, trailers, pumps, generators, feeders, water lines, barns, general farming and related equipment;
Assist business leads in designing, installing and commissioning new infrastructure, from water facilities to animal troughs and pens;
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems;
Keep maintenance facilities clean, safe and organized;
Maintain meticulous service records, order parts and tools;
Adhere to safety standards (OSHA and Oregon State agricultural & safety protocols);
Provide emergency repair and logistical support to minimize downtime;
Exhibit exemplary judgment, safety and professional conduct on and off the job.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred;
Minimum 2 years of experience in maintenance, mechanical repair, or similar roles;
Skilled in hydraulics, pneumatics, welding/fabrication, basic carpentry and basic electrical diagnostics;
Proficiency with hand and power tools, schematics, and equipment manuals;
Physically capable of handling heavy components and working in various outdoor/weather conditions;
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required;
Prior experience in agriculture, farm, or ranch equipment settings is a strong plus;
Excellent problem-solving abilities, energy, strong attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork;
Fluency in English required;
Proficiency in Spanish a strong plus.
Specific Duties and Equipment Serviced
Agricultural Equipment: Tractors and other standard ag equipment, ATVs/UTVs, livestock trailers;
Ranch Systems: Livestock handling equipment, feeders, water delivery systems (pumps, troughs, pipelines), irrigation pumps, well motors;
Heavy Equipment: Loaders, backhoes, tractors ,caterpillars, graders, skid steers, forklifts;
Core Shop Work: Welding, cutting, fabrication of custom parts, maintaining hand/power tools;
Facilities and Infrastructure: Some work on fencing, corrals, barns, storage sheds, range housing, and irrigation structures;
Vehicles: Ranch trucks, side by sides, ATVs and service vehicles—basic engine, brake, and tire maintenance;
Emergency Response: Rapid repair of essential systems during lambing, calving, livestock loading, harvest, or weather-related events to keep operations running.
Compensation & Benefits
$20-$30/hour / commensurate with qualifications and experience, and to potentially include housing for right candidate;
